The Samoan Werewolf is back, and he just crashed the main event scene.

Nobody saw this coming. Jacob Fatu made his stunning return to WWE SmackDown on January 9, and he didn't waste time making his presence felt. The final stage of the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre Three Stages of Hell match was already delivering drama.

Then Fatu appeared wearing all black and a mask—sound familiar?—and everything changed.

The Samoan Werewolf has been absent since October when Drew McIntyre took him out with a vicious assault. That attack cost Fatu the final two months of 2025 and left questions about when—or if—he'd return to WWE programming. Those questions got answered in the most explosive way possible as Fatu inserted himself into the WWE Championship picture and reignited his feud with McIntyre in one calculated attack.

The Return Nobody Expected

With the match tied at one fall apiece and the steel cage looming, McIntyre looked ready to escape through the cage door. That's when Fatu struck. The Samoan Werewolf waited outside the door and sent Drew scrambling back into the ring. Once inside the cage himself, Fatu unleashed on both men.

The attack on Rhodes proved decisive. While Cody dealt with Fatu's assault, McIntyre seized his opportunity and escaped through the cage door for the victory.

Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold

This wasn't random chaos. Fatu attacking McIntyre was pure payback for the October assault that cost him the final two months of 2025. That injury took the Samoan Werewolf off television just as his momentum was building. Now he's back, healthy, and clearly gunning for Drew.

But he didn't just target McIntyre. By attacking Cody too, Fatu inserted himself into the main event picture with both men. Now Rhodes has unfinished business with both Fatu and McIntyre. The math is simple: triple threat match incoming.

WrestleMania Season Just Got Interesting

Fatu's return couldn't have come at a better time. With WrestleMania season heating up, WWE now has another legitimate main event player in the mix. The question is how they'll use him. Does he continue chasing McIntyre for revenge? Does he target Cody's championship? Or does WWE have bigger plans?

What's clear is that Jacob Fatu should be a regular presence in the main event moving forward. He looked like a star in MLW, and WWE has been carefully building him as a big deal since his arrival. This new presentation gives him an edge he didn't have before.

The Long-Term Picture

If Fatu stays healthy—and that's always the key question—he has the tools to be a main eventer for years. The size, the athleticism, the presence—it's all there. WWE has invested time in his development, and this return feels like the beginning of his real push.

The Three Stages of Hell match was supposed to settle things between Cody and Drew. Instead, it opened up new possibilities. Fatu is back, he's motivated, and he just crashed the party in the best way possible.

WrestleMania season just added its wildcard.
