WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler has had a tough month. Lawler suffered a minor stroke on September 5 at his condo in Fort Myers, Florida. Now, ten days later, Lawler is thanking fans for the support that he has received since the news of his stroke. While speaking with FOX13 Memphis, Lawler shared that he hadn’t been taking his medication days before the stroke.

During the interview with FOX13, Lawler revealed how, when he was in the hospital, he didn’t recognize his own family members. He also said how grateful he was for the support from his family, friends, and fans. Lawler said:

"I remember lying in the bed in the hospital, and when people that I knew, like family members, came in and I didn't even recognize them. People kept coming out of nowhere to thank me and to pray for me. All of that means such a great, great deal to me and I want to thank them for all that."

The stroke two weeks ago had caused the Hall of Famer to cancel upcoming convention bookings. One of those conventions was for last weekend’s HorrorHound in Cincinnati, Ohio. WWE Hall of Famer Lex Luger instead took his spot for him.

This is Lawler’s third stroke he has had. He suffered his first one in 2018, and in 2023, he had a massive stroke. Lawler is still affected by the massive stroke from 2023. He said in an interview with Bill Apter, back in March 2025, that he couldn’t draw anymore, and the right side of his body was still damaged. Lawler said:

“That’s something that’s here constantly every day. The effects of the stroke are always there. My whole right side of my body is damaged. I can’t really write too good. I can’t draw worth a darn, but I can still sign an autograph, thank goodness. But other than that, I feel fine.” (h/t: TJRWrestling)

The former WWE commentator also suffered a heart attack during the September 10, 2012, episode of WWE Monday Night RAW. His partner was Michael Cole. The King would return to the announce table in November 2012. In May 2024, WWE decided not to renew Lawler’s broadcast contract, marking the end of an over 30-year run with the company as a commentator. At the moment, Lawler is signed to a WWE Legends contract.
