We have a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and his name is Jey Uso.
Uso challenged Gunther for the gold in the opening match of "WrestleMania" Saturday. The man who was once known as an exceptional tag team wrestler captured a world singles title for the first time in his career. Gunther was submitted in shocking fashion by Uso.
It wasn't an easy road to the championship for Uso. He delivered a spear early on, but Gunther kicked out. Uso also had to find the will to kick out of the former champion's powerbomb. Uso hit a second spear, followed by an Uso Splash, but Gunther found the strength to get his shoulder up.
Uso was also nailed with the World Heavyweight Championship when the referee was distracted. On top of that, "Main Event" also escaped a rear-naked choke.

Ultimately, it took Uso multiple spears, Uso Splashes, and his own rear-naked choke to put Gunther away. Uso has earned his first reign as a world champion under the WWE banner.
The rivalry between Uso and Gunther going into the match at Allegiant Stadium was more personal than championship gold. Weeks prior to "WrestleMania," Gunther tied Uso to the middle rope and forced him to watch as he battered and bloodied his brother Jimmy.
Jimmy was able to celebrate with his brother in the ring. Jey and Jimmy captured tag team gold eight times. Now, Jimmy gets to witness his brother reign as the top male titleholder on the "Monday Night Raw" brand.
