It has been a week since the WWE universe was shocked by the passing of Hulk Hogan. The 71-year-old passed away from cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, on July 24. Since then, many have spoken about it, including Hogan’s longtime friend and manager, Jimmy Hart.
In an exclusive interview with People, Hart revealed that the night before, on Wednesday night, Hogan’s assistant told him that he was “doing great.” Hart then relayed a message to the assistant to tell Hogan that he “loved him.”
“It just hits so fast. It was like, ‘Oh my God.’ We thought he was doing so well, you know? We didn't go to see him at the house and didn't go to see him at the hospital, because we wanted to make sure that he didn't get any infections or anything else, like if anybody had a cold or brought anything in. So, that's what we all did.”
The last time the longtime friends were together in person was a month before Hogan had his neck surgery, when the two ate and interacted with fans. Hogan underwent neck surgery in May.
"He was great. He had great food to eat that night. He was talking with the fans. He was just phenomenal."
During a more lighthearted moment in the interview, “The Mouth of the South” compared Hulk’s popularity to that of Elvis Presley, especially when they were on the road back in the day.
"It was like traveling with Elvis Presley. It was just unbelievable. The fans just came out of the woodwork for Hulk. I mean, no matter where we went, it was insane."
Even the day after his passing, fans stopped Hart to talk about what it was like working with Hogan. The legendary manager was on last Friday’s episode of SmackDown to pay tribute to his friend, along with several other legends of the Hulkamania era: “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Sgt. Slaughter, Jim Duggan, Gerald Brisco, and Brian Blair.
