After a slight detour, we are finally back to John Cena's retirement tour being all about reacquainting himself with some of his fiercest rivals one last time. That brought CM Punk to The Franchise Player's door tonight at Night of Champions as The Second City Saint attempted to bring an end to Cena's record-breaking 17th World Title reign.

John Cena Defeats CM Punk At Night Of Champions

Unfortunately for Punk, and everyone else who is waiting for Cena to get his comeuppance, that's not how it went down. The old rivals' first match since 2013, and likely their last match ever, ended with Cena getting his hand raised. How exactly Cena got it done was very different from any match ending we've seen between these two before, though.

A spirited back-and-forth between the two that was reminiscent of some of their best matches with one another was thrown into disarray when the referee was accidentally knocked out of the ring. Punk had the match one with no one to count the pin, and that's when Seth Rollins entered the fray, dead set on ruining Punk's night.

Seth Rollins Tried To Repeat The Heist Of The Century

Rollins, backed by his cronies, was naturally coming to the ring to try and repeat his Heist of the Century from WrestleMania 31. However, Cena, seeing the plan unfold before him, intercepted Rollins just in the nick of time. Things only got more chaotic from there as those Rollins and his group have wronged joined in the fun to try and make sure the cash-in didn't happen.

Penta was first up, and when Bron Breakker proved too much to handle, Sami Zayn entered the fold to lend a helping hand. The two of them neutralized Breakker while a stunned Bronson Reed was taken out of the equation by Punk. Cena, showing there's still good in him, shook Punk's hand. However, he had that look on his face, the same one as when he turned heel.

That's because he saw a recovering Rollins lurking. Cena jumped out of the way, let Punk take the hit from Rollins, dispatched of Mr. Money in the Bank, and then covered Punk for the win. Absolute chaos, but once the dust had settled, it was Cena getting his hand raised as he is still WWE Champion.
