This whole year has been crazy to watch as a John Cena fan. Not only did they get to see Cena’s long-awaited heel turn in WWE, but he also captured his 17th WWE Championship and became a record holder in the company.

Cena has worked through numerous matches this year, but now, he only has one more match left. It’s going to be his retirement match, where he’ll face either LA Knight or Gunther (depending on who wins the Last Time is Now Tournament).

If there are any fans who’re hoping Cena would eventually return to the ring in the next few years for a match or two, The Cenation Leader has got some bad news for them.

John Cena Says He Is 100% Done With Wrestling After His Final Match

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, John Cena once again said that his retirement will be final. We know that many stars in the past have come out of retirement for a match or two. Even Shawn Michaels, who fans thought was done for good, eventually returned to the ring again for a Saudi Arabia show.

It seems things will be different in Cena’s case. He’s consistently said that after December 13, 2025, he will never step into the WWE ring again. Cena said the same to Jimmy Kimmel:

“It has been a crazy year where I announced this like 15 months in advance that I’m going to retire. This has really never been done in WWE history, WWE superstars don’t necessarily ‘retire’ they always kind of hang on for one more match. I am absolutely 100% done. The 13th of December on Peacock is my last in-ring performance. I will never wrestle again.”

On the same show, Cena also addressed the skepticism of wrestling fans surrounding his retirement. Cena said he announced his retirement in advance so WWE fans will have the time to process it.

Earlier this year, Cena finally won the Intercontinental Championship in WWE as well and became a Grand Slam Champion. He lost the belt to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series 2025 after an interference from Judgement Day. Currently, Cena is preparing for his upcoming Saturday Night Main Event match, which takes place on December 13.
