John Cena to star in upcoming Mattel ‘Matchbox’ film

John Cena has a new film lined up.

Deadline reported on Tuesday that Cena will star in ‘Matchbox’, which will be directed by Sam Hargrave for Skydance, Mattel Films, and Apple Original Films. It will be based on Mattel’s line of Matchbox toy vehicles.

The former WWE Champion has continued to secure high-profile acting roles after stepping down from WWE full-time in 2017. Some of his most recent projects include starring roles in ‘Jackpot’, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video last month, and ‘Ricky Stanicky’. He will also return as Peacemaker in the second season of the titular Max streaming series that will premiere next year.

Cena has recently announced that he will be returning to WWE for a retirement tour that will start in January of next year through December of 2025. Cena said that the tour would likely consist of 36 dates. He has reiterated that once his retirement tour is over, no check would be big enough to lure him out of his in-ring retirement.
