John Cena vs. Logan Paul At Clash In Paris Was Loaded With References To Other Wrestlers

We are down to single digits when it comes to how many matches John Cena has left. Fans were a little peeved that at Clash in Paris, one of Cena's final matches was used on Logan Paul. The two of them did everything possible to make fans feel it was the right call, not only putting on a top-tier bout, but loading it with references to other wrestlers, some of which are among Cena's most notable opponents.

John Cena Showcases Other Wrestlers Finishers At Clash In Paris

As loved as Cena is, he has infamously become synonymous with being someone who uses the same moves over and over again. He's been doing them for over 20 years, and it seems to have worked out pretty well for him. It also makes it even more notable when he does do something else, and he really pushed himself against Paul.

One of the most memorable moments of the match was when Cena hit a Styles Clash on Paul. One of the harder finishing moves in wrestling to get right, as it requires the person taking it to ignore their instincts and not tuck their neck. A move made famous by AJ Styles, I'm hopeful this was a sign that he and Cena will wrestle each other one more time before The Franchise Player rides off into the sunset.

We might be nearing the end of Styles' career, too, after The Phenomenal One noted that this year's SummerSlam would be his last.

Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, And Christopher Daniels Were All Referenced

Styles wasn't the only wrestler Cena paid homage to by way of a finishing move. The 17-time World Champion also hit an End of Days, the finisher of choice for Baron Corbin, who no longer wrestles in WWE. The same applies to Dolph Ziggler whose ZigZag was used by Paul, and the YouTuber also added Cesaro's signature uppercut to his repertoire for the evening.

One of the more obscure references Cena made via his move set at Clash in Paris was the Angel's Wings. A move made famous by Christopher Daniels, who, you might not know, helped train Cena alongside Samoa Joe. Very cool if Cena's use of that move was a tribute to one of the men responsible for starting him on the road he's about to reach the end of.

The last unexpected move Cena hit was the Code Red. Honestly, I'm not sure why he used this one. Maybe he just wanted to prove that, at the tail end of his career, he can still hit moves like that. Michael Cole noted that it's Roxanne Perez's finisher, otherwise known as Pop Rox. Perez hit the move on CM Punk during a live event on WWE's current European tour.
