After much speculation, whether WWE was going to do a tournament to find John Cena’s final opponent, it was finally confirmed on November 1 during Saturday Night’s Main Event. Cena came out to make the announcement, calling the 16-man tournament “The Last Time Is Now.”
For over two decades, I have tried to make the most of every opportunity I’ve been presented. On December 13th, I’d like to repay the favor. The Last Time is Now Tournament begins next Monday in Boston! https://t.co/hQTHS8Hhgu— John Cena (@JohnCena) November 2, 2025
Cena took to social media this past Sunday, November 2, to share why he wanted a tournament to determine his final opponent. To him, it will be an opportunity for someone, something that he has been given a lot in WWE. He wrote:
“For over two decades, I have tried to make the most of every opportunity I’ve been presented. On December 13th, I’d like to repay the favor. The Last Time is Now Tournament begins next Monday in Boston!”
So it kicks off on the November 10 episode of WWE Raw, which will be in Cena’s hometown of Boston, Massachusetts. He’s supposed to be in attendance, and the week after, on Monday, November 17, is his final episode ever of WWE Raw. The episode is taking place at Madison Square Garden. So it’s not only his last Raw, but his last MSG match. Cena is also scheduled to be part of the Survivor Series PLE on November 29.
Cena’s final match is set for December 13 for Saturday Night’s Main Event. It will be taking place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Since the announcement of his final match, there has been a lot of speculation about who is going to be the one to face Cena. One of the names that keeps popping up in reports is former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. Gunther has been out of action since losing the title at SummerSlam, so he’s just looking for a blockbuster return.
Even though it’s likely going to be Gunther, there are a lot of fan theories about either it being former WWE Superstars Chris Jericho or Edge. Right now, Jericho has been teasing about where he is going to be going after his AEW contract ends this year.
It also didn’t help that Cena said that the opponents didn’t even have to be part of WWE. Though it's likelier that someone from TNA would be in the tournament, someone like Joe Hendry. There is also the roster of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide to take into consideration. It’s very possible to see someone like El Hijo del Vikingo as one of the 16 men. Though the women’s roster wants to get into the action too, Bayley recently asked if she could be part of the tournament. It will definitely be interesting to see who is part of the tourney and who goes on to face Cena.
