Jon Moxley’s Rumored New Creative Direction In AEW Based On Neo-Nazi Character From Obscure 90s Film?

A new report suggests that the changes Jon Moxley has made to his persona in AEW are based on a racist character Russell Crowe played in an obscure 1990s film.

After a couple of months away from AEW television, Jon Moxley made his return to the brand on this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. It was a celebrated moment by the fans in attendance. Since the man formerly known as Dean Ambrose in WWE was missed and is a beloved figure in the All Elite Wrestling fanbase.

However, the former AEW World Champion was noticeably different during his appearance on Wednesday. Firstly, his head was completely shaven. Which was a departure from how fans are used to seeing Mox. But, he also had a darker approach to his character and delivery. Even telling AEW announcer Tony Schiavone “This isn’t your company anymore.”

The expectation is that Moxley’s new approach will lead to a greater story that will unravel in the weeks ahead. However, on a new edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, reporter Bryan Alvarez claimed he knew the unusual inspiration for the wrestling legend’s new persona.

“I actually know the movie he watched. Romper Stomper, Australian cult classic, 1992,” Alvarez said. “He was playing Russell Crowe in what he was doing. I’m not making this up. That’s a scoop for ya.”

Even the unique line he delivered to Schiavone resembles a similar line Crowe says in the film. “I’m gonna tell you something. I want you to listen to me, okay? This is not your country.” Below you can find a synopsis of the film from IMDB.

And it seems that the fictional character Jon Moxley is basing his new direction on is one that is not very politically correct.

“A gang of violent neo-Nazi skinheads from Footscray, Victoria, Australia attack two Vietnamese-Australian teenagers in a subway tunnel at Footscray Station. The gang is led by Hando (Russell Crowe) and his friend and second-in-command, Davey (Daniel Pollock). They meet drug addict Gabrielle (Jacqueline McKenzie) the day after her sexually abusive, highly affluent father Martin (Alex Scott), has her junkie boyfriend beaten up. Gabrielle starts a romantic association with Hando.”
