  • Match ended by countout as medical staff attended; Ibushi was stretchered to an ambulance.
  • Fans criticized AEW for promoting the match on social media after the injury reports.

An unfortunate accident happened during the Wednesday taping of AEW Collision Homecoming. It was first reported by PWInsider that Kota Ibushi was injured during his match against Josh Alexander.

Kota Ibushi Suffers An Injury

The 43-year-old reportedly suffered a broken femur and will require surgery. F4Wonline’s JJ Williams was in attendance and described the unfortunate incident. Per the report, Ibushi fell off the top rope to the outside of the ring. His leg had given out. He never made it back into the ring, and Alexander won by countout. The house lights were lowered while medical personnel assisted Ibushi. Kenny Omega was out there as well. Ibushi was then carried out on a stretcher to an ambulance.

As of this writing, no official announcement has been made about Ibushi’s injury. Though during the Collision taping, AEW CEO Tony Khan later came out to speak to the Jacksonville, Florida crowd about the dangers of wrestling and thanked them for being “good fans.”

It was only this past summer that Ibushi returned to the ring after being gone for a while. He had been dealing with some serious injuries. Ibushi had dealt with a right tibiofibular ligament tear and a right ankle lateral ligament complex injury. Ibushi’s last match before Wednesday’s injury was the Lights Out Steel Cagematch at the AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door event on August 24, 2025, at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Fans Call Out AEW’s Social Media For Posting Match Graphic

While AEW hasn’t posted on social media about Ibushi’s injury, roughly 23 hours ago, AEW’s official X account posted a graphic promoting the match, which is set for this Saturday, October 11. Fans weren’t happy with the promotion. One fan wrote:

“Didn’t bro get stretchered to the hospital? Is this not in bad taste? Just a little bit?”

While another questioned AEW for advertising the match. They wrote:

“Why would you advertise this match after everyone knows what happened to Ibushi?”

One fan called it a “strange promotion.” The fan tweeted:

“It is a very strange promotion. Why do we want to view an injury?”

Another fan questioned if AEW was still going to air it. They wrote:

“They gonna still air it? After the reports came out?”

So it’s not surprising that fans are confused that AEW kept the post up, especially with the injury happening right on the show. Anyway, here’s hoping that Kota Ibushi has a speedy recovery.
