Major WWE Superstar Possibly Returning for 'Backlash 2025'

A big main event star might be on the table for an appearance at "WWE Backlash 2025."

An Undisputed WWE Championship match between titleholder John Cena and Randy Orton is scheduled to be the main event for the next PLE. Cena captured the title from Rhodes at "WrestleMania 41" thanks to an assist from Travis Scott. "The American Nightmare" hasn't been seen on WWE TV since.

PWInsider reports that the idea of Rhodes appearing at "Backlash" has been discussed by WWE officials. The report notes that this does not confirm that the plan is concrete. Many expect Rhodes to eventually return for revenge on Cena, even if he doesn't appear on Saturday.

Many believe that WWE could be setting up a rematch between Rhodes and Cena at "SummerSlam." If "The American Nightmare" does end up returning this Saturday, then he'll need to feud with some other key stars if the plan is to hold off on the rematch until August.

Cena is the heavy favorite going into his title defense against Orton. It'll be the first time the WWE legend puts the gold at stake since setting the record for the most world title reigns at 17. Orton will be challenging for the Undisputed WWE Championship in his hometown of St. Louis.

While Cena has been using underhanded tactics since betraying Rhodes at the conclusion of "WWE Elimination Chamber," many are wondering if he will have some outside help this time. There has been no sight of The Rock since Cena made the heel turn, and Travis Scott hasn't been seen since "WrestleMania."
