Massive Steel Cage Match Made Official for SummerSlam 2025
Massive Steel Cage Match Made Official for SummerSlam 2025  1 SummerSlam [via- WWE]

In the wake of its first-ever two-night SummerSlam PLE, WWE is pulling out all the stops to make it an overwhelming success. On this week’s SmackDown, Solo Sikoa and his MFTs were involved in a car accident as the show went on air. An investigation was launched to probe into the hit-and-run that kept the fans captivated throughout the evening.

The local cops had initially named Jacob Fatu as a person of interest, but soon acquitted him of the charges after reviewing the footage. Fatu was greeted by Jimmy Uso upon his return to the arena. The duo then took the gauntlet to Sikoa and his men by first neutralizing the towering Talla Tonga at ringside, followed by the current United States Champion.

JC Mateo and Tonga Loa soon joined the party and got beaten up. Sikoa was eventually informed by Adam Pearce that he would defend his US title against Fatu at SummerSlam in a steel cage match. Pearce then sent out the cops, who would go on to arrest ‘The Street Champion’ for perpetrating the hit-and-run earlier in the show. As Sikoa was escorted through the backstage area, he begged for help from Cody Rhodes, who was just passing by.

However, ‘The American Nightmare’ didn’t entertain anything and exited the scene. The upcoming title defense for Sikoa inside a steel cage is designed to mitigate the undue advantage of his MFTs. He ousted ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ at Night of Champions after Talla Tonga made his WWE debut and took Fatu out. That win marked Sikoa’s first singles title on the main roster.

What else has been set for SummerSlam?

Coming out of this week’s SmackDown, WWE has the SummerSlam card set at 8 matches with more to be added. In the two respective men’s world title matches, Gunther will defend against CM Punk, whereas John Cena will have to go through a street fight to deny Cody Rhodes a shot at redemption.

Newly crowned Women’s World Champion Naomi has Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley to contend with, while Tiffany Stratton‘s reign will be tested by the powerhouse known as Jade Cargill. Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez will defend their women’s tag team titles against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. In another tag team match, Randy Orton and singer-rapper Jelly Roll will take on Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre.

They had an angle on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! last Wednesday to heat things up. Becky Lynch will also defend her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Lyra Valkyria in what will be their third singles match since their rivalry kicked off after WrestleMania this year. The aforementioned bouts, in addition to Solo Sikoa vs. Jacob Fatu, paint a good picture of how dramatic SummerSlam is going to be in about two weeks.

What will be Roman Reigns’ match at SummerSlam after his stunning return on Raw?

The biggest question at the moment is regarding Roman Reigns‘ current plans for SummerSlam. He made his emphatic return on Raw this past Monday to preclude a total annihilation of Jey Uso and CM Punk at the hands of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.

‘The OTC1’ single-handedly tackled the menace of Seth Rollins‘ so-called future of the industry. One would imagine that Reigns and Uso do seem likely to lock horns with Breakker and Reed at this point. However, as per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan, as of three weeks ago, was to pit Reigns against Breakker in a singles match.

Also, Uso vs. Reed was discussed to be added to the two-night PLE. However, there’s no word on whether the said matches have stood the test of time. Rollins’ recent knee injury has completely derailed the original plans, and everything seems to be in a flux.
