Washington Freedom secured a five-wicket victory over the Los Angeles Knight Riders in a final-ball finish during Match 17 of the 2025 Major League Cricket season in Dallas.

After winning the toss, Washington chose to field first. Los Angeles Knight Riders posted a strong total of 213 for 4 in their 20 overs. Andre Fletcher led the scoring with an impressive 104 off 60 balls, while Unmukt Chand added 41 from 30 deliveries. Washington’s bowlers managed to regain control in the middle overs, with Tanveer Sangha taking 2 for 35 and Shadley van Schalkwyk adding 1 for 33 in his four-over spell.

In response, Washington Freedom chased down the target, reaching 214 for 5 in 20 overs. The game was decided on the final delivery. Mitchell Owen played a crucial role with a quick 43 off just 16 balls, and Glenn Maxwell contributed 42 from 23 deliveries.

“This was a complete team effort,” said Washington captain Glenn Maxwell. “The boys fought hard with the ball and pulled things back in the middle overs. The total seemed slightly under-par, especially with the short boundary. Ian Holland has been brilliant throughout the tournament.”

Mitchell Owen was named Player of the Match for his decisive innings. He said, “We always believed we could chase it down, especially on this wicket. We bowled well at the death and knew it would be tough, but we’re happy to get over the line.”

Los Angeles Knight Riders captain Jason Holder said, “I’m proud of the way the boys fought. We were a bit sloppy in the field, which could have made a difference. Fletcher played an outstanding knock, but we thought retiring him out could bring fresh momentum. Washington bowled well in the middle and at the death.”
