Modern Age Grappling debuted with its first event on May 22, and the main event set up the promotion’s second show.

In the fourth and final bout of the night, Brian Johnson defeated Rhett Titus in a hard-fought match. “The Mecca” repeatedly bent and broke the rules; he pulled Titus’ tights for the win after his competitor slipped on a puddle of water in the ring. After the match, when commentator Colt Cabana questioned Johnson’s methods, the former ROH standout said the win was all that mattered. Johnson stated he would remake the promotion in his image and dropped Cabana with a cheap shot.

When he kept talking, Cabana attacked him and sent him scurrying up the ramp. The veteran then declared that he was a believer in Modern Age Grappling and its style of pure wrestling. He announced that Modern Age Grappling would be held on June 30, at the FITE Factory in Hampton, Georgia, and challenged Johnson to a match. “The Mecca” accepted, so the bout is set for the show.

An on-screen graphic revealed that the event will be called Modern Age Grappling 2: This is Wrestling.
