Mustafa Ali to Challenge Ethan Page for NXT North American Title

Near the end of Ali’s WWE career, he went from the main roster to NXT. WWE would release him on September 21, 2023, right before he was supposed to face Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship at the 2023 NXT No Mercy PLE. Trick Williams would instead get his spot. Before his release, Ali had been with WWE for seven years.

So during the September 30 edition of WWE NXT, Ali made a surprise return to WWE and interrupted North American Champion Ethan Page. He addressed his WWE release and demanded his earned title match. He said:

“It wasn’t that long ago that I earned an opportunity at the North American Championship, but that opportunity never came, and I started to wonder, maybe I’m cursed, but on this very day two years ago, I was promised a North American Championship match, but on that day the sun did not rise. Instead of a title match, I got a phone call. A phone call that my services were no longer needed. And here we are, 749 days later and I still am waiting for the championship match that I earned!” (h/t: WrestleTalk)

After two years, Ali will finally get his title match. Ethan Page has been the North American Champion since May. He won the title by defeating Ricky Saints on the May 27, 2025, episode of NXT.

Other Matches Set For NXT Showdown

The NXT vs. TNA Men’s Survivor Series will see Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Myles Born take on TNA’s Mike Santana, Frankie Kazarian, Moose, and Leon Slater. While the Women’s match will see Jacy Jayne, Lola Vice, Sol Ruca, and Jaida Parker vs. Kelani Jordan, The IInspiration, and Mara Sade.

One of the biggest matches will see Jeff and Matt Hardy put the TNA Tag Team titles on the line, while DarkState will put their TNA Tag Team titles on the line. This will be the Hardys' first match in WWE since earlier this year in March. The two had defended the TNA Tag Team titles against Fraxiom at NXT Roadblock.
