Top Three All With Ten

Day 12 ended with the top three spots in the B Block held by three wrestlers with 10 points each. IWGP World Heavyweight champion and defending tournament winner Zack Sabre Jr., Konosuke Takeshita, and Ren Narita all reached double-figures after winning their respective matches.

In the main event, ZSJ defeated Shingo Takagi for the fifth time in eight matches, extending his tournament streak to four wins. If the round robin ended, he would get the bye to the semifinals in the playoffs. On the other hand, Takagi joins El Phantasmo, as he has also been eliminated from playoff contention.

In the seventh match of the show, Ren Narita was victorious over Great O-Khan in their first-ever singles match. Narita has had a good showing so far, with wins over two current champions, ZSJ and ELP, and is now in the top three in the B Block.

Before that, Konosuke Takeshita picked up the win over YOSHI-HASHI. He’s also performed tremendously well in his second straight G1 campaign so far, with this win increasing his chances of claiming the bye to the semis.

In the other tournament match, also-ran NJPW World TV champion beat Drilla Moloney to increase his point total to six. Although he lost, Moloney still has a chance to qualify for the playoffs if he wins his last two matches, but everything else is out of his control.

Moloney, O-Khan, YOSHI-HASHI, and Shota Umino are all on the outside looking in the top three spots with eight points each.

Tournament action will resume on Thursday, August 7, with Yota Tsuji going one-on-one with David Finlay in the main event.
