19 days of NJPW G1 Climax 35 all come down between EVIL and Konosuke Takeshita. Read on to see who won the 35th edition of the grandest tournament in pro-wrestling and everything else that went down in the final:
Konosuke Takeshita prevailed over EVIL to win the G1 Climax 35 final. Entering the tournament for a second straight year, he outlasted 19 other wrestlers to win a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight title.
The final went a little bit differently than expected, as EVIL did not have any outside help from his fellow House of Torture members during the match. Although he did try to cheat by lowblowing Takeshita later on, the match was free of the usual HoT interferences.
In the end, Takeshita was able to dig down deep and pull off the biggest victory of his career. The Alpha has risen to the top and has his eyes set on becoming a world champion.
Later on during his backstage interview, Takeshita also made his intentions clear by saying he wants to main event Wrestle Kingdom 20 in the Tokyo Dome on January 4 next year as the G1 winner and IWGP World Heavyweight champion. This means he will not wait until January 4 to get his title shot, something Zack Sabre Jr. also did last year when he won the tournament.
Meanwhile, Sabre’s next title defense has already been set at AEW Forbidden Door against fellow Brit Nigel McGuinness. Takeshita’s declaration after winning this year’s G1 may just be an indication of whoever wins that match on August 24.
Bullet Club War Dogs have added to their ranks. After the second match of the show, War Dogs leader David Finlay came out and then proceeded to call for others to follow.
The two men who answered his call were OSKAR Leube and Yuto Nakashima, the team called Young Blood; two young lions who went on an excursion last year. Looking much different than when they left, they went to the ring and attacked the winners, Taichi, Satoshi Kojima, and Taka Michinoku, who cornered the two for their tag match.
After laying out everyone, Leube and Nakashima posed with Taichi’s tag title, seemingly making their intentions clear on what their goal is after coming back from their Europe excursion.

The Rampage Dragon went on the mic after his team lost an eight-man tag match against the Bullet Club War Dogs to challenge Gabe Kidd for the IWGP Global Heavyweight championship. Kidd has not wrestled a match since sustaining a knee injury on the opening day of the G1 against eventual tournament winner Takeshita.
Kidd had one successful title defense against Hiroshi Tanahashi during the New Japan Soul tour back in July, a few weeks before the G1. Takagi wants to be the next one to test the reigning champ; however, there is no clear date as to when that might happen because of Kidd’s injury.
