One notable superstar is no longer under contract with WWE.
The top wrestling promotion has seen its share of talent releases as of late. Names such as Sonya Deville and Baron Corbin have made their exits from the company in recent weeks. It's been said that WWE is making room for talent to be called up from the NXT roster. There's also the fact that the company continues to look for new talent through its recruitment programs, such as WWE ID.
In this case, a well-known talent's contract has expired. Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp and Masked J of PWN are reporting that former WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Carmella no longer has a deal in place with WWE.
The report didn't note whether or not the two sides are in the negotiation process or if it's a case similar to Deville where WWE decided against renewing the contract. Carmella hasn't been seen on WWE TV since 2023.
"The Princess of Staten Island" has been inactive after giving birth to a son that same year. She has been dealing with drop foot, but has remained hopeful in regards to a return to the ring.
Carmella is the wife of WWE color commentator Corey Graves, who currently works the desk for NXT shows. Graves has yet to speak publicly on Carmella's status with WWE.
When Carmella was a member of the active roster, she last performed on the Monday Night Raw brand as a heel. In her most recent match, she teamed with Damage CTRL and Piper Niven in a losing effort to Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Asuka, Candice LeRae, and Nikki Cross.
At this time, Carmella has not addressed the report of her WWE contract expiring.
