Randy Orton Explains How He’s Still Thriving In Pro Wrestling After Two Decades
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

Randy Orton has been in WWE for over two decades.

Recently, while speaking to Jazzy of Jazzys World TV, The Viper reflected on his wrestling career and shared what has contributed to him still being at the top of his game.

“You just made me realize that I’m pretty dang old. Two decades! That’s a long time to do anything, ain’t it? But, how have I stayed at the top of my game for that long? You know what? I think being able to leave work and just leave work at work and go home. And kind of be a regular human being and kind of soak up the home time with my family. I think that’s helped me kind of keep a level head. Especially, in my older years, my wiser years. When I was younger, it was a little hard to balance home and work life. But after a couple decades, I finally figured it out.”

Randy Orton lacked confidence when he first stepped foot into the business

Orton mentioned that building up confidence is key to his success.

“You know, sometimes the confidence, the confidence is huge as you know, it takes a lot of confidence just to get in front of the camera, on the microphone. But I think it’s important, earlier in my career, I didn’t have that confidence. And I had to almost learn how to fake it. So that, when I walked out through that curtain, even though I didn’t quite believe in myself at that point.

“I knew, if I wanted all those fans, sitting in the stands, and the people at home to believe in me, I had to believe in myself. So I faked it a little bit for a while, but I eventually built that confidence. And I think that’s one of the reasons that I’ve done well here. Is because I do believe in myself. And I think that’s an important message for all the kids out there. And adults, to believe in yourself, to believe in something.”

Randy Orton gives his wife Kim Orton all the credit for managing their family

The Apex Predator also mentioned that his wife, Kim Orton is the one that deserves all the credit for managing his household of five kids and four dogs.

“I do have five kids. And we have four dogs too. We had three, we just got a little puppy. So, things are crazy at my house right now with four dogs and five kids. But you know what helps me out? Is, I’ve got a badass wife, pardon my language… But I’ve got a wife at home that can really handle her business. And she takes care of me, she takes care of the kids… She even takes care of the dogs. She takes care of her family.

“And I couldn’t do it without her. And when I come home for… I don’t know how she does it, but she has the energy to be there for me and I try to reciprocate, and it really, I think it comes down to… You know… I found the perfect person for me to be able to handle what I do for a living. Because it’s not for everybody.”

Orton said he appreciates the changes in WWE over the years, which includes getting more time off to be at home. He noted that if you are hurt or need to be home for a milestone, it didn’t happen much in the past. Now, he says WWE makes sure there’s more consistency at home.
