Randy Orton: Facing Gunther Is A Great Way To Test My Limits, Prove I Can Hang With The Young Guys
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

At WWE King and Queen of the Ring, Randy Orton will face Gunther in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. Orton shared his thoughts ahead of the bout.

In an interview WWE posted on their YouTube channel, Kayla Braxton asked Randy Orton to comment on how he was feeling heading into the match.

“I’m beat up. Now I got back-to-back singles matches, but this is for a pretty grand prize, a prize I’ve never been able to get my hands on,” Randy Orton said. “So I’m looking forward to competing.”

Randy Orton On Gunther

Randy Orton was then asked whether facing Gunther was a match that he had earmarked since his return in November 2023. He noted that he had some warming up to do first, but he viewed Gunther as a fitting way to test himself.

“I had kind of a list on the inside of my head of guys that I wanted to wrestle in that ring, and Gunther, I wouldn’t say he was the top of the list,” Randy Orton said. “I had some warning to do before I got to him. But I’m feeling better than ever, and I feel like now’s the time. When I first came back at WarGames, I was just coming back after 18 months out. Had to dip my toe in the water and slowly just kind of get used to being in the ring. That takes some time for me.

“But now, after six months, I’m ready for someone like Gunther. The thing is, I don’t know if anyone has his ability because he is one of a kind. It’s gonna be hard-hitting, and it might be the toughest match I’ve had since I’ve come back. Easily, it’s gonna be a war for me. But I think it’s a great way to test and see just how much my body can take. Gunther’s the guy for the job, if I’m looking to test my limits.”

Randy Orton On Proving He Can Still Hang

Randy Orton then stated that he looked at the match as a great way to prove that he could still hang with the young guys.

“My hands are gonna be full, and I know that,” Randy Orton said. “But I welcome it, and I think it’s a great way for me to kinda prove that although I’m getting up there in age, I’ve been around a long time, but I was 19 when I signed my WWE contract. You might think I’m old, but I’m not as old as you think, you know what I’m saying? I’m gonna prove that I can hang with the young guys.”
