It’s been a minute since we last saw him, and now we know the reason why Samoa Joe was written off of AEW television.
Samoa Joe had a nice run with the AEW title, even if people felt like he was a bit of a transitional champion. The title is now Swerve’s. Though he has himself a massive title match with Bryan Danielson around the corner. But enough about that. What’s going on with Samoa Joe? When last we saw him on television, he was getting put through a wall by Chris Jericho. While I might argue that there would have been a better option to decimate the fearsome former champion, it’s been done.
So, when someone get’s written off, there’s usually a good reason. And there is with Samoa Joe now too. As with many other professional wrestlers, there is work for them outside the ring. With Joe, he landed the role of Sweet Tooth in the NBCUniversal/Peacock show Twisted Metal. Joe didn’t have lines, he just served as the body. But that kept him busy enough for season one. And the show was good enough that there will be a season two.
According to PWInsider, season two of Twisted Metal just began shooting in mid-July. Sweet Tooth is a key character and as such, Samoa Joe was needed on set. The report details that season two filming is expected to last through October. What remains unclear right now is if Samoa Joe would be on set for the entire duration, or if we could see him back on AEW programming before the fall.
Regardless of when his filming ends, it will be good to get Samoa Joe back on television when that time comes. But, for now, he is off making other content for us to enjoy and then we can watch Joe on AEW television again.
