John Cena tied Ric Flair’s record for most world championship reigns at 16 in 2017 at the Royal Rumble. Since then, he has become a part-time WWE star while focusing on his Hollywood career.

While appearing on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Flair was asked if he believed Cena would ever get that record-breaking 17th reign. He doesn’t think Cena will do it but does think Randy Orton, who has 14 world title reigns, has a shot at it.

"I don't think so. I don't think they will ever give it to a part-time performer,” Flair stated. “I think that Randy Orton has got a better shot at it. Randy will come back, he has to have surgery. I certainly wouldn't be offended because the real number is 21. They all have a way to go.”

It should be noted that part-time stars such as Brock Lesnar and Goldberg have become world champions in recent years.

Flair broke down his other world title reigns that WWE doesn’t count. He dropped the NWA World Title to Dominican star Jack Veneno, then got it back. Similar situations happened with Carlos Carlon in Puerto Rico and Victor Jovica in Trinidad. Flair dropped the title to Harley Race in New Zealand, then regained it in Singapore. In 1991, Flair won the world title from Tatsumi Fujinami.

Flair continued, “I love John Cena. He is such a credible performer and just one of the great guys in the business.”

Flair also shared in this interview that he wasn’t happy with Vince McMahon’s resignation from WWE.
