Ricky Saints is focused on the present and doesn’t want fans dwelling on negativity.
Saints won his first WWE gold earlier this month, dethroning Shawn Spears for the NXT North American Championship. There was then a post-match angle where Ethan Page attacked Saints. As the show went off the air, the fans chanted “Tony fumbled,” voicing their belief that Tony Khan missed an opportunity with the former AEW talent.
Good Karma Wrestling asked Saints about those chants during a WrestleMania week interview in Las Vegas. Saints said he appreciates fans supporting him, but he doesn’t want them to put anyone else down in the process.
“My reaction is — it’s not about what happened in the past,” he said. “It’s about like, let’s focus on now and my work that I’m doing now. I appreciate the sentiment that they care about me and have opinions about the situation, but, you know, let’s not put somebody else down.”
Saints (Ricky Starks) debuted for NXT this February just one day after being let out of his AEW contract. He was off AEW programming for nearly a year prior to his departure, with Saints calling his absence a “mindf*ck” because he wasn’t directly told why he wasn’t being used.
In AEW, Saints was a one-time Tag Team Champion and FTW Champion.
The North American title will be on the line when Saints defends against Page at NXT Stand & Deliver this Saturday. The PLE has a start time of 1 p.m. Eastern.
