Roman Reigns Claims WWE Has No True Competition
ROMAN REIGNS REVENGE TOUR LEADS TO WWE WRESTLEMANIA 42 DOGFIGHT THRILLER 1

WWE has had to compete with various promotions throughout history to earn its place as the top pro wrestling company in the world. However, Roman Reigns now believes that WWE has ascended to such a height that it no longer has any "true competition".

WWE Has No Competition According To The OTC

Reigns was a guest on Nico Leonard's podcast, a show that's primarily popular among watch collectors. The OTC, being a watch collector himself, appeared on the show to let Leonard roast his watches. Naturally, some WWE chatter came up, too, which is when Reigns claimed WWE no longer has any competition.

"There is no true competition for WWE. There are other promotions and other places to work in wrestling, but if you wanna be in the top show and considered the very top of the mountain, you have to be in WWE," were Reigns exact words (HT to Fightful for the transcription). The other promotions he's referring to are presumably AEW, and maybe even AAA and TNA, the former now being owned by WWE, while the latter has a close working relationship with the company.

Some might think Reigns made those comments to stir the pot, and there's every chance there's an element of that. There's a far bigger chance that he believes what he's saying, though, and he has every reason to. For starters, WWE is the promotion that made him. He's been one of the company's top stars for over a decade - longer than AEW has existed - and makes millions of dollars per year.

Reigns Is A WWE Product Through And Through

Reigns also doesn't really know anywhere else outside of WWE. Again, WWE made him, and his career was just beginning when he signed with NXT. There's also a significant degree of truth to what he's saying. No matter how much you love AEW, or how much you dislike WWE - especially right now - that there is no promotion on WWE's level is an objective truth, regardless of how much someone might want to argue otherwise.

That doesn't mean nowhere outside of WWE is worth your time. Take Reigns' good friend Jon Moxley. He is clearly a far better fit in AEW than WWE and enjoys himself a lot more there than he ever did during the previous chapter of his career. He's far from the only one who shines brighter elsewhere than they did or would have in WWE, too.

If WWE really does have no true competition right now, that isn't a good thing, which is how Reigns frames it. Historically, WWE has done most of its best work when there's a rival threatening to take away its fans, WCW during the Monday Night War being the most famous example. When there's no competitive number two, or even a different number one like WCW for a stretch there, those in charge of WWE tend to relax, and the product suffers.
