The main event at AEW World’s End PPV was for the AEW World Championship between Samoa Joe and MJF. When the match was all said and done, there was a new champion crowned as Samoa Joe beat MJF by submission.

The ending was unexpected, but the result was not. Entering the event, you knew that MJF was seriously injured as he had a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Therefore, he needed to drop the belt to take some time off.

Throughout the entire match, MJF was fighting with one arm, and he could not mount much offense. Let’s be honest; this match was mostly a squash match. Samoa Joe took it to MJF early and often. Even with the support of the Long Island crowd and his best friend Adam Cole in his corner, MJF could not overcome the odds.

Entering the match, Samoa Joe hit MJF in the back with a chair on the go-home episode of Dynamite heading into Worlds End. Joe made a deal with the Devil, who turned out to be Adam Cole. Samoa Joe protected MJF until the time was right to strike and inflict as much pain as possible before the match on Saturday night.

With MJF nursing that shoulder, Samoa Joe went to work. He targeted the shoulder old night, looking for his finish, the muscle buster. He even landed it on the outside on the apron in a crazy spot. There were shades of Cody Rhodes-Brodie Lee I for the TNT Championship in this match, where the champion had little to no offense while the challenge did all the work.

Remember, MJF could not work that much because of his injury. However, MJF did hit an F5 on Samoa Joe with the reffing down. There was a call back to MJF and Punk, where Wardlow could not find the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Similar in this match, where MJF asked for the ring from Cole, and it took Cole time to find it. Again, the whole storyline of who the man behind the Devil’s mask was came into play.

However, there was a reason Samoa Joe relinquished the ROH Television Title. He was going to be the next champion once it was announced that MJF was seriously injured and going to miss time to recover.

With the ref coming to his senses, Joe put MJF in his sleeper hold and both went to the mat. The ref did the arm drop to check to see if MJF would submit. However, MJF did not raise his arm the third time as it dropped to the mat as the referee called for the bell. The fans were in shock that MJF did not retain the title in his hometown.

Justin Roberts announced that Samoa Joe was the New AEW World Champion. This was the right call. Joe has been a dominant TV Champion and challenger in ROH. Thus, he will make a great AEW World Champion. He is taking on all comers.

It was a night you will never forget as after the match, Adam Cole revealed himself to be the Devil as Joe walked out with the title.
