During the early days of AEW, Scorpio Sky had a consistent presence on the television product. He was part of AEW's first tag team champions and held the TNT championship on two occasions.
Tony Khan consistently found reasons to book Sky and placed him in multiple storylines. Yet, as AEW grew in popularity and the roster began to welcome fresh new talent, Sky's presence within the weekly programming began to dwindle.
These days, newer AEW fans wouldn't know who he was if he appeared on Dynamite or Collision. In fact, only the longest-tenured members of the fanbase would remember Sky and the work he did during the company's formative stages.
During a recent episode of his "Creating Character with Scorpio Sky & James Willems," podcast, Sky admitted that his career has taken a dramatic turn in recent years.
"My career has sure taken a nosedive, hasn't it? I don't know if there is bad blood or not. I know I'm healthy and I've been healthy for a long time and I've been wanting to compete. It's just one of those things, what can you do?"
Sky isn't a bad wrestler. Nor, from the available reporting, has he done anything wrong in the locker room. He's fallen by the wayside due to the strength in depth of AEW's locker room. There are simply too many mouths to feed.
The shocking part is that Sky isn't being given a shot on Collision or even with Ring of Honor. Instead, he's sitting at home, waiting for his phone to ring.
If Khan doesn't see a path forward for Sky in AEW, he should allow Sky to explore the Indie scene or head to Japan.
Unfortunately for AEW, Sky's demise could become a cautionary tale for veterans looking to join AEW. One minute, you could be donning a championship belt, and the next, you've faded into obscurity with no return in sight. And once you're out of the picture, it's hard to break back in.
According to WhatCulture Wrestling, Sky's last appearance in AEW was in September 2024. And if we're being honest, it's unlikely we will see him again soon. AEW's deep roster is great for the company and for the fans. But for the talent trying to break through, improve, and potentially earn a spot on the main rotation, it could be nothing more than a momentum killer, and that's a genuine problem.
