For fans who missed Night 1 of WWE SummerSlam, ended up missing one of the biggest ruses in a while for pro wrestling. After CM Punk defeated Gunther for the World Heavyweight title, Seth Rollins came out and cashed in his MITB case. That wasn’t the only thing that shocked fans that night, though, because Rollins made (almost) everyone believe that he was injured. Ahead of WWE Monday Night RAW, the newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion made a special guest appearance on the Rich Eisen Show to discuss the ruse.
Since his match against LA Knight at Saturday Night Main Event, Rollins had fans thinking that he had injured his knee during the match. For almost three weeks, he wore a knee brace and used crutches. Granted, before it was confirmed, the idea wasn’t as far-fetched, considering Rollins suffered an ACL tear in 2015 and also tore the meniscus in his left knee in January 2024. It’s no wonder that the day after SummerSlam, Rollins decided to return to the Rich Eisen Show. It was where he first lied about how he was going to miss an extended period. He said:
“Well, look, Rich, as much as I love you. And I love you. I love all of you guys,” Rollins responded when asked if he was actually hurt. “I cannot divulge my secrets right now. Tonight, tune in to Netflix. We will be live 8 p.m. Eastern/5 Pacific. Live globally. You can hear all of it, but I can’t get into too much here. I just wanted to come by and extend my gratitude to you guys and to let you know how much I appreciate you giving me a platform to fool the entire world, really. Fooled the entire world. There’s no other way to slice it. I fooled the entire world.” (H/T F4WOnline)
It’s worth noting that while Rollins thinks that everyone was fooled, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray wasn’t exactly. While on Busted Open Radio, Ray talked about how “something wasn’t right” regarding the knee injury. Ray was in the crowd during Night 2 of SummerSlam, along with D-Von Dudley.

Even though Becky Lynch, a month ago, shared on social media a video of Rollins and their daughter Roux walking, where he was notably using crutches, the Architect said Lynch wasn’t too happy about lying to friends and family. He said:
"My wife is an unwilling participant in this ruse. She was very upset with me for making her lie to all of her friends and family for the better part of three weeks. She was very upset. I said, ‘Honey, just trust me. The payoff will be great.'"
Also, in the interview, Rollins shared a hilarious story about after telling his daughter not to tell anyone about his "fake boo-boo," she immediately told her preschool teacher. In the end, the Visionary wasn’t wrong about the payoff. He now holds the title, while Punk only got to taste the gold for a few minutes after his brutal match against Gunther. Time will only tell what happens now and if Punk will get his revenge against not only Rollins but his former friend and manager, Paul Heyman!
