When an NXT wrestler loses a championship, it’s not the end of the world. In fact, it's often a signal that they are about to earn a promotion to the WWE Raw or Smackdown roster. Asuka was on such a huge undefeated streak in 2017 that she had to give up the NXT women’s title and just get moving to the big show.
Tuesday’s episode of NXT featured a pair of shocking title changes that could have major implications for the rumored WWE Draft . Ricky Saints suddenly lost the North American championship to “All Ego” Ethan Page in a battle of AEW alumni. Nobody expected the former Ricky Starks to hang around the developmental brand for long, and now he could jump straight to the main roster without an NXT belt around his waist.
Then, an even more shocking title change took place. Even the new champion couldn’t believe it.
SHOCKED. STUNNED. SPEECHLESS.

JACY JAYNE IS THE NEW NXT WOMEN’S CHAMPION!!! #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/DSw9Wu938t
Jacy Jayne upset Stephanie Vaquer for the NXT women’s championship. She was never pushed as a singles competitor, as she was a member of Toxic Attraction, Chase University, and Fatal Influence. Jayne’s only previous title was the NXT women’s tag team championship that she held with Gigi Dolin.
With Jayne on top of NXT, Vaquer is likely to move up, as well as Jordynne Grace. Vaquer recently defeated Grace in a title match, so Grace can move up, too, instead of anchoring the NXT women’s division. She would avoid what happened to Bayley, who had to lead the other women in NXT while her fellow Four Horsewomen members (Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks) moved up to the main roster at the same time in 2015.
Grace and Vaquer would arrive just in time for Evolution 2, the sequel to the all-women event on Peacock scheduled for July 13 in Atlanta.
