During an event that fans expected might have surprises, WWE kept the biggest surprise for last, producing a classic main event match and then swerving everyone with the finish. Evolution 2 delivered on every front and the match between Ripley and Sky lived up to its billing. Ripley and Sky went back and forth, offering classic wrestling, false finishes, a knocked-out official, and fighting into the crowd. The fans were sucked into every moment. The bout was an absolute classic filled with emotion, high-flying moments, and hard-hitting action.
The two Raw stars displayed incredible chemistry, with Ripley’s brute power perfectly balancing Sky’s technical brilliance and aerial artistry. When everyone thought Sky had the match won, Ripley survived Sky’s moonsault. The WWE Universe erupted. Every time people thought the match was over, it wasn't. Jackie Redmond said in the Evolution post show, this will be match that fans will ask, 'Where were you when..."
The wildest part was that neither woman won.
Moments after Sky and Ripley seemed like it would go on forever, Naomi’s music hit. Clutching her briefcase, Naomi stormed to the ring and cashed in her MITB contract, making the bout a Triple Threat Match. Because, under Triple Threat rules, there is no disqualification, Naomi belted Sky with the MITB case. She then hit the one split-legged moonsault, earning the victory. Naomi pinned the champion and secured her place atop the Raw women’s division. She will now switch brands.
Some fans will hate the fact that such an incredible match didn't have an honest finish. At the same time, this was the best move for Naomi as a heel character. She was smart and saw her opportunity, making the most of it.
Ripley and Sky embraced after the match, knowing how good the bout they put on was. Naomi got the pyro to end the show. She is now a three-time Women's Champion.
