AEW has struggled in recent years to generate consistent buzz. Even the additions of Cope, Will Ospreay, and Mercedes Moné haven't been enough to bump viewership across their programming.
The company's partnership with Times Warner has at least been good for marketing, allowing advertisements during NBA games and March Madness. Tony Khan has shown a willingness to use celebrities to help garner a headline, with people from Action Bronson to Shaquille O'Neal making guest appearances. One current internet megastar recently revealed specifics about his AEW deal and what could be on the horizon.
On a recent episode of the Dropkick the Commute podcast, TikToker Big Boom AJ revealed he has three more matches left on his AEW contract, as well as insight about the future with the promotion. "I think the (collaboration) will extend because there are a lot of pieces in place that aren't going to be ready until the end of the year," AJ said. There are action figures, for instance, and a few other things that are in the works that are going to take a year or a little longer to launch."
AJ has wrestled a pair of pay-per-view pre-show bouts for the promotion, most recently at the start of the month in a six-man tag at Revolution. At 49, he is far from a future champion, but he provides adequate comedic relief and helps reach a younger demographic that enjoys the content he creates with his son. It seems like a mutually beneficial union for both sides and one set to continue for the foreseeable future.
