Will Ospreay is racking up the air miles. The UK-based wrestler is flying back and forth between America and England on a weekly basis. Those flights can range from 7 to 12 hours each way. On weeks when he appears on both Dynamite and Collision, he adds additional air time with internal flights around the US.
Despite spending so much of his time in the air, Ospreay told Bleacher Report's Chris Mueller that he has no plans on moving across the pond any time soon.
“There’s nothing in my being that makes me want to move to the United States,” Ospreay said. “I respect it and understand why people do it, but I have such a lovely life here, and my son’s doing really well in school. I am very happy here. I don’t have any aspirations to want to move.”
Ospreay's commitment to keeping his family life as settled as possible is admirable. He's shouldering a significant travel burden to ensure his home life is best for everyone involved. However, his body can't sustain the additional stress forever.
Wrestling, by nature, is a high-impact sport. Yes, the shows are scripted, but the moves, impact, injury risk and toll it all takes on your body are very real. When you factor in thousands of flying miles per week, everything can add up quickly.
If Ospreay intends to have a long and rewarding career, he will need to make the move at some point. AEW is still gaining traction and growing as a company. Ospreay is among the biggest stars on the roster. Limiting his chances of injury or burnout is of the utmost importance for him and the company.
If his family were based in the U.S., too, Ospreay would likely get more time at home, as he would have almost an additional day per week when he wasn't in the air. So, while Ospreay can certainly hold out for a few more years, at some point, he will need to give in. Otherwise, he could find himself working house shows around the UK instead of headlining major events by the time he's in his 50s.
