(SPOILER) Former WWE Champion to Return on This Week’s SmackDown to Set up Saturday Night’s Main Event clash
WWE Lambasted for Handing Goldberg an Illogical World Title Match Against Gunther at Saturday Night's Main event 2 Goldberg and Gunther on Raw [via- WWE]

This week’s Friday Night SmackDown was taped immediately after Raw on Monday in Pittsburgh. And for those wondering if anything significant happened during the blue brand’s yet-to-air episode, a certain Scottish psychopath made his return. By the sounds of it, he’s none other than Drew McIntyre. As seen in the following clip, the former WWE champion interrupted the show’s opening segment between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton.

The former Legacy members were talking about their match from Night of Champions, where Rhodes got the better of his mentor. By doing so, ‘The American Nightmare’ became the 2025 and 24th King of the Ring and is now headed to challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE title at SummerSlam.

Coming to the segment, ‘The Viper’ noted that he did hesitate in using the punt kick on Rhodes. However, the ex-AEW EVP shoved Orton’s shoulder first into the exposed turnbuckle to seize his moment. Just as these former stablemates were oozing mutual respect, McIntyre’s music hit. It was the latter’s first WWE appearance in over a month as he had been off TV since losing a steel cage match to Damian Priest.

The Chosen One went on a hiatus to deal with some personal business and address some minor injuries as well. But it seems like McIntyre is good to go. He mocked Rhodes and Orton’s camaraderie and eventually ended up getting dropped by The Apex Predator, courtesy of the RKO. Later on, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis made Orton vs. McIntyre official for Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 in Atlanta.

Goldberg to wrestle for the last time at Saturday Night’s Main Event

Next week, Bill Goldberg will step inside a WWE ring for the last time in his career. The task at hand, however, is daunting. The former WCW champion will go up against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The 58-year-old wants to teach the Austrian a lesson for disrespecting him at last year’s Bad Blood PLE.

Even though WWE is billing it as Goldberg‘s final hurrah, what if he shocks the world by beating the erstwhile Walter for the world title in Atlanta? ‘The Ring General’ has asserted that he views his competition as nothing but a 58-year-old one-trick pony.

Moreover, on the June 30th segment of Raw, the Vienna-born wrestler mocked the intense enigma and his apparent affinity for shorter matches. Ultimately, he vowed to bury the legacy of Goldberg when they battle at SNME. Many wrestling pundits have slammed WWE for booking the Tulsa native into such a high-profile match when he’s on his way out considering the Hall of Famer doesn’t look anywhere near the top of his physical abilities at this stage.

He was spotted limping on Raw moments after reacting to his entrance pyro on a night he confronted Gunther. The latter has affirmed that he will embarrass the WWE Hall of Famer over trying to wrap him up in under three minutes or so.

Is John Cena set to miss Saturday Night’s Main Event?

Having escaped the wrath of CM Punk last weekend at Night of Champions in Riyadh, John Cena is not expected back on WWE television until the July 18th edition of SmackDown. It’s safe to presume that he likely wouldn’t be a part of Saturday Night’s Main Event in a matter of a few days.

The Cenation Leader is coming off a hectic title defense, which could’ve gone either way. With Punk in the rearview mirror on Cena’s hit list of opponents, what’s next for the Last Real Champion? As things stand, Cody Rhodes will challenge the Peacemaker actor for a rematch at SummerSlam with the Undisputed WWE title belt up for grabs.

The American Nightmare has earned the right to do it by dispatching Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finale. The Franchise Player unjustly dethroned Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 with the aid of Travis Scott. It’s time for the ex-AEW EVP to right that wrong.
