STARDOM Confirms Injuries to World Champion Saya Kamitani and 3 Other Stars
World Wonder Ring STARDOM

World of STARDOM Champion Saya Kamitani is set for a brief spell on the sidelines, with a minor surgery confirmed by the promotion. The surgery will rule Kamitani out for the February 13 event at Korakuen Hall.

Posting on X, STARDOM revealed a few details around Kamitani’s absence:

“After conducting a detailed examination of Saya Kamitani’s injury in Osaka on Feb. 7, the decision was made to pursue surgery and minimize further risk.

As a result, Saya Kamitani will miss 1 month of in-ring competition, with a return date yet to be announced.

Kamitani will remain World of Stardom Champion in this period.

Thank you for your continued support.”

Details on Kamitani’s Gruesome Injury

The injury in question happened during her title defence against Starlight Kid at STARDOM Supreme Fight in Osaka. Just over 10 minutes into the main event bout, Kamitani suffered a horrible hand injury that displaced her right middle finger. The Osaka crowd was stunned into silence as the ringside doctors carried out their assessment on the champion.

The assessment took a couple of minutes, and there were worries that the match would have to be stopped. This would’ve been an unexpected dramatic turn, as Starlight Kid would’ve emerged from Supreme Fight as the new World of STARDOM Champion. But with her fingers taped up, Kamitani bravely finished the match and defended her title in an impressive show of strength.

Having recently made history as the first woman ever to win the Tokyo Sports MVP award, her minor injury break will come as a huge blow to both Kamitani and STARDOM. And sadly, when it comes to injuries, when it rains, it very often pours.

Suzu Suzuki, Saya Iida, and Bea Priestley join Kamitani on the Injury List

The trio of injured stars will also miss the February 13 event at Korakuen Hall. Priestley also fought at Supreme Fight, but she was unsuccessful alongside Hanan in pursuit of the Goddesses of STARDOM Championships. Suzuku, meanwhile, participated in the 38-minute gauntlet between the Mi Vida Loca and E neXus stables.

Suzuku was on the winning side, with Akira Kurogane picking up the submission victory. Saya Iida is currently unavailable as she completes a follow-up procedure from a previous injury.

STARDOM confirmed the news on Suzuki, Iida, and Priestley in an official statement:

“Suzu Suzuki, Saya Iida, and Bea Priestley will be absent from the Feb. 13 event in Korakuen Hall.

Suzuki and Priestley are healing from minor injuries. Iida will be undergoing a follow-up procedure from a previous surgery.”
