Summer Rae Reveals Desire to Return to WWE

  • Summer Rae still gets the itch to return to WWE after her 2011-2017 run.
  • Her WWE role leaned on storylines more than in-ring work; notable pairings: Fandango, Rusev, Breeze.
  • She briefly returned in 2022 to taunt Natalya and entered the Women's Royal Rumble; Nattie eliminated her fast.

Former WWE Superstar and “Total Divas” (she was a main cast member in both the second and third seasons of the reality TV series) star Summer Rae recently spoke with talkSport about boxer Tyson Fury, though her WWE ring career was also brought up in the process.

Summer Rae Always Feels An Itch To Return To WWE

Rae, whose real name is Danielle Moinet, was in WWE between 2011 and 2017. She began her career in FCW then later NXT until April 2013, where she made her main roster debut as former WWE Superstar Fandango’s dance partner and valet. Rae said:

“We were on the road, gosh, a good 300 days a year. It’s completely nonstop, but when it’s what you’ve wanted to do, it doesn’t feel like work. I’m still very good friends with a lot of the girls and a lot of the guys in WWE and I still watch it avidly. I’m such a big fan, and it’s just a part of me. It always will be. I get the itch to go back all the time.” (h/t: WrestlePurists)

Rae’s career was more about storylines she was in than her in-ring ability. At one point, she had an on-screen relationship with Rusev. It was to get revenge on Lana and Dolph Ziggler for their relationship. Though the storyline was dropped when reports about Rusev and Lana’s engagement were released.

After that, she was partnered with Tyler Breeze for a bit. Before her official departure in October 2017, Rae’s last televised match was on the July 4, 2016, episode of RAW, where she lost to Becky Lynch.

Summer Rae’s Brief WWE Return

She’s probably also best known for her rivalry with Natalya, which was played up for “Total Divas.” While on the show, Rae had actually slapped Natalya. Things were definitely heated then.

Speaking of Natalya, it was in 2022 when Rae made a brief return to WWE to antagonize her former rival. During the January 21, 2022, episode of SmackDown, she taunted Natalya while in the crowd. She then would return for the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match. Nattie ended up crushing those dreams and eliminating her in under 1 minute.

As of this writing, the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match was her last in the company. So if she does return to the WWE ring, Nattie will probably be on her list. Though, as she first learned in 2022, the WWE Women’s Division is a whole new landscape of talent, and it's even more different three years later.
