The WWE World Tag Team Championships were on the line at Wrestlemania 41 Night 1 as The New Day challenged for the titles against The War Raiders. The match was back-and-forth throughout and saw the legendary tag team win the tag team championships, the second championship change in as many matches. This should help The New Day as they continue to be heels since departing from Big E. Let’s take a deeper dive into what happened in the Wrestlemania match and what this means for the Monday Night RAW tag team division.
The New Day (consisting of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston) have won the WWE World Tag Team Championships for the fifth time and is the 11th tag team championship that the group has won (five World Tag Team titles/RAW Tag Team titles, five Smackdown Tag Team titles, one NXT Tag Team title). The Wrestlemania 41 match saw some fun tag team wrestling that ultimately saw the team win as they “stole” the pin by holding Woods hiting a double stomp and Kingston holding Ivar’s legs so he could not kick out.
In terms of who can compete for the WWE World Tag Team Championships, outside of a rematch there are some interesting contenders. Alpha Academy (Akira Tozawa and Otis) could be competing for the gold or even a slight babyface turn with El Grande Americano and the Creed Brothers challenging for the tag team titles on RAW. With the Smackdown tag team scene heating up, there could be some callups down the line to help improve the division but The New Day are going to need to carry the RAW tag team division and make it take a step in the right direction post-Wrestlemania.
