The Rock is reportedly the reason behind the delayed release of WrestleMania XL documentary
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

On Night 2 of WrestleMania XL, WWE released the trailer for a behind-the-scenes documentary of the event. It was set to release later that week, on April 10. However, fast forward a month, and there has been no sign of the film. PWInsider has provided an update on the release and the possible reason behind the delay. The report implies that WWE is waiting for The Rock‘s final approval.

For weeks, the promotion’s sources had informed fans that the documentary would be released “soon.” The trailer strongly hinted towards showing footage of the on-and-off screen buildup of the main event. Moreover, along with The Rock, it depicts the other stars involved in the two-night extravaganza. In addition to the four participants, WWE CCO Triple H also divulges details behind the WrestleMania card.

From The Final Boss’ return on Day 1 to the go-home episode of WrestleMania, the documentary focuses on the journey to the main events. Most notably, the plans changed on the road to the Showcase of Immortals. When the wrestler-turned-actor became a member of the TKO Board of Directors, he signed a deal to compete at this year’s WrestleMania.

Obviously, this meant he would be facing none other than his cousin, Roman Reigns. However, the overwhelming support for Cody Rhodes presumably led WWE to pivot in another direction. And Rocky ended up turning heel by joining forces with The Bloodline. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the behind-the-scenes footage of the entire buildup to the show.

AJ Styles expressed desire to face The Rock in the future

At Backlash, AJ Styles proved that he’s still one of the best wrestlers in WWE. After silencing the online criticism of being ‘washed’, the Phenomenal One looks to check another box in his legendary career. Recently, the veteran spoke about the possibility of going one-on-one with The Rock.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Styles claimed that he wouldn’t mind a future match against The Final Boss. However, the former WWE Champion did mention that he would prefer facing a ‘babyface’ Rock. Talking about his current heel persona, he emphasized that it would take it to a whole new level.

The O.C. leader cited Dominik Mysterio as the epitome of a heel in wrestling. Further, Styles expressed wanting to be more hated than The Judgment Day member and receiving more boos than he currently does. Despite his wishes, the chances of The Great One turning face seem unlikely, especially given the success of his recent run.
