TNA iMPACT 7/31 Recap: Mike Santana Speaks Out For The First Time Since ‘TNA Slammiversary’ Loss

As TNA gears up for its “Emergence” event, Mike Santana spoke out for the first time since his disappointing loss at “Slammiversary.” Plus, Leon Slater made his first defense of the TNA X Division Championship on Thursday’s episode of “TNA iMPACT.”

Leon Slater (c) vs. Cedric Alexander vs. Jason Hotch w/Order Four – for the TNA X Division Championship

Leon Slater landed a handspring back elbow on Jason Hotch. Cedric Alexander went for the Lumbar Check, but Slater got out of it. Hotch landed Pele kicks on both of his opponents. Alexander took out the champion with a flatliner. Hotch was then drilled with a German suplex.

Alexander planted Slater with a Michinoku Driver. Slater went high-risk, but he ate a high knee from Hotch. Slater landed Twist of Slate on Hotch. He followed up with the Swanton 450 for the win.

Masha Slamovich Sends Message to Jacy Jayne

Masha Slamovich said she had no patience to wait to exercise her rematch clause against Jacy Jayne. She said she made the TNA Knockouts Championship mean something to real fighters, and she vowed to take the gold back.

Slater and Alexander Agree to Singles Match

Slater was backstage when Alexander approached him. The champion suggested that he put his gold at stake against Alexander one-on-one. Alexander accepted and reminded Slater that he never pinned him.

Indi Hartwell and Dani Luna vs. Jodi Threat and Arianna Grace

Victoria Crawford made her way to ringside. Indi Hartwell worked on the arm of Arianna Grace. Jodi Threat got in a blind tag, and she shared the ring with her former tag team partner, Dani Luna. Threat landed a springboard codebreaker, followed by a crossbody.

Luna crashed outside of the ring, and Grace took advantage by sending her into the apron. In the ring, Grace connected with a neckbreaker. Luna tagged in Hartwell, who went after Threat. Luna and Threat were the legal women, and the latter connected with a driver for a near fall.

Threat attempted Pop Shove it, but Luna sent her former tag partner into Grace. Luna took advantage with the Luna Landing for the win.

Tensions Rise Between Something And Maclin

Jake Something was backstage and said that now that Mance Warner is in the past, it’s time for him to go after the TNA International Championship. Steve Maclin appeared, and the two had a staredown.

The Nemeths vs. The Rascalz

The Nemeths charged in before the bell rang, but The Rascalz were ready with simultaneous dives. Ryan and Nic Nemeth scored a double-team neckbreaker on Myron Reed. The Nemeths continued to keep Reed grounded.

Nic went for a suplex, but Reed countered with Slumdog Millionaire. Zachary Wentz was tagged in, and he drove Ryan down with a German suplex. Ryan capitalized on a distraction by Nic and hit a DDT. Nic then landed the Famouser, but Wentz kicked out.

Reed landed a cutter on Nic over the top rope and onto the floor. Wentz took out Ryan with a Spiral Tap for the win.

Winners: The Rascalz

The Nemeths remained in the ring and refused to leave. Nic Nemeth claimed both he and his brother were screwed out of the tag titles. Ryan Nemeth slammed Rhode Island and called the fans ugly before The Hometown Man interrupted.

The Hometown Man Unmasked

The Hometown Man said The Nemeths need to apologize. Ryan called The Hometown Man a goofball. The Nemeths tried accusing The Hometown Man of being Cody Deaner, but the crowd singing cut them off.

The Nemeths told The Hometown Man to leave the ring. The masked man warned Nic to shove the mic down his throat if he didn’t apologize. Ryan took a swing, but The Hometown Man popped him with a right.

The numbers game was too much. Ryan unmasked The Hometown Man, who was immediately covered up by security. The Nemeths began attacking security, but The Rascalz chased them off.

Kazarian Takes Issue With TNA Management

Kazarian was backstage, and he said there was a time when dedication and hard work were rewarded in TNA. He said it’s non-existent in this version of TNA. Kazarian claimed he was disrespected, and he demanded a chat with Carlos Silva.

Mike Santana Addresses ‘Slammiversary’ Loss

Mike Santana entered through the crowd and shared some words. Santana said he stepped into UBS Arena with the city, his family, and his culture on his back. He said, despite being cheated, the fact remains he lost.

Santana said that whenever he was faced with adversity, he fought. The Puerto Rican star said as the air was drained out of UBS Arena, he was forced to look at the front row and the tears his daughter shed. He said his daughter told him he will get the TNA World Championship next time.

Santana then passionately guaranteed he would become a TNA World Champion.

Jacy Jayne (c) w/Fatal Influence vs. Masha Slamovich – for the TNA Knockouts World Championship

Masha Slamovich tried to surprise Jacy Jayne with a quick pin attempt. The two engaged in a pin battle. Jayne hit a hurricanrana on the challenger. Slamovich delivered a clothesline. Fallon Henley grabbed the foot of Slamovich, allowing the champion to take advantage with a slingshot on the bottom rope.

Slamovich regained momentum and hit a rolling kick. Ash by Elegance ambushed Slamovich with her TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship, causing the DQ finish. Lei Ying Lee and Xia Brookside cleared the ring after the match.

KC Navarro Not Cleared to Compete

KC Navarro was informed by a TNA medic that he wasn’t cleared to compete. This angered Trick Williams and AJ Francis, who were upset that Navarro lied to them about his condition before “Slammiversary.”

Ash by Elegance Gets TNA Knockouts Championship Match

The Elegance Brand was scolded by Santino Marella for preventing a TNA star from taking back a world title. Slamovich was furious with Ash by Elegance, who demanded her title opportunity next week. Marella agreed to book the match and said the winner faces Slamovich. Marella also banned Heather and M by Elegance from ringside.

Mara Sade Showcased

An interview segment put the spotlight on Mara Sade , formerly known as Jakara Jackson, on WWE’s “NXT” brand.

Joe Hendry Interrupts Order Four

Mustafa Ali and the rest of Order Four made their entrance. Ali addressed the unknown man who helped Order Four defeat Matt Cardona and Brian Myers last week. Ali introduced him as the head of his secret service. Ali said fans cheer for “frauds” such as Joe Hendry. That’s when Hendry’s music hit, and he made his way out.

Hendry said he wanted to correct Ali on one thing. He said there are no secrets in TNA, and the cameras have some embarrassing footage of John Skyler. The footage showed Skyler’s face taped onto a stuffed Hendry toy. The toy was seen using Ali’s shirt as toilet paper.

Hendry then suggested a singles match with Ali, who said he’d only take the match next week.

Will Sami Callihan Retire?

Tom Hannifan had an interview with Sami Callihan. He asked “The Death Machine” about his future in TNA Wrestling. Callihan said he’s never been more embarrassed in his life and said he’s disgusted with himself. Callihan said, despite Moose retracting his comments about being a disappointment as of late, “The Death Machine” admitted that he doesn’t think the comments were wrong.

Callihan said he hasn’t been the same person for years. He said he thinks being in front of the cameras is a disservice to TNA. Hannifan asked Callihan if he’s ready to retire. Callihan said he wants to face Mike Santana at “Emergence” to see if he still has something left in the tank. Callihan said if he loses, then he might leave his boots in the ring and retire.

Moose and Eddie Edwards w/Alisha Edwards vs. Trick Williams and AJ Francis w/KC Navarro

Moose quickly tagged himself in and landed a big boot on Francis. Williams entered the ring and was on the receiving end of multiple chops. The System sent both Francis and Williams to the outside.

Back in the ring, Moose struggled taking Francis down with a shoulder block. Francis returned fire with a forearm. Moose charged in and finally brought Francis down to the mat. Williams ducked multiple strikes from Moose in the corner, but he was popped with a chop to the chest. Williams delivered a leg lariat.

Francis went for a suplex, but Moose countered with one of his own. Edwards got the tag, and he landed a forearm in the corner. Williams was taken out with a suicide dive. When the referee was distracted, Navarro pulled Edwards off the apron. Edwards sent Francis into the corner and landed a Blue Thunder Bomb. Moose and Williams were the legal men. Williams went for a clothesline, but Moose countered with a Uranage. Francis went for Down Payment, but he ate a headbutt.

Williams charged in, and Moose landed a pop-up powerbomb. Francis broke up the pin attempt with a senton. Navarro got on the apron, but he accidentally hit Williams with his crutch. Edwards knocked Francis off the apron. Moose delivered a spear to Williams and scored the pinfall.

Winners: Moose and Eddie Edwards
