TNA Wrestling Extends Announce Team Contracts

In an interview to come later this week, TNA Wrestling President, Carlos Silva, announced that Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt, the current company’s announcers, will continue for a while. He also noted McKenzie Mitchell will remain in her role as the promotion’s ring announcer. The company recently extended Hannifan and Rehwoldt’s contracts. The length of the renewals is unclear. Since 2022, Rehwoldt and Hannifan have been the voices of every iMPACT episode and IMPACT/TNA Wrestling PLE. Their alchemy on-screen is undeniable.

After nine years with WWE as Tom Phillips, Tom Hannifan replaced Matt Striker at the TNA’s announce table in January 2022, alongside D’Lo Brown. Hannifan has also done some backstage interviews and been the host of the company’s “press passes.”

Matthew Rehwoldt assumed the color commentator role from D’Lo Brown two weeks after Hannifan’s debut. Rehwoldt was better known as Aiden English in WWE, one-half of the former NXT Tag Team Champions, The Vaudevillains. He competed in IMPACT Wrestling/TNA in 2021 and 2022, teaming up with the “Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo or wrestling in singles bouts. The “Drama King” remains an active wrestler, mostly in US indie promotions.

A Unique TNA History of Announcers

TNA Wrestling has a long history of excellent announcers. No fan can forget the early years of the company, announced by Don West and Mike Tenay. Jeremy Borash is also an unforgettable voice of the TNA’s action. Don Callis and D’Lo Brown excelled as color commentators from 2017 to 2022. But for the last three years, Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt have become one of the best teams of announcers in the history of the company, if not in wrestling today.

In the recent “Slammiversary: Fade to Black” documentary, Tom Hannifan confessed, with a voice full of tears, how he enjoyed this “second chance” at TNA Wrestling. “The momentum that this company has had in the past two years can’t be questioned. And for us to make a statement tonight, especially with Slammiversary, I feel that’s what this event tonight is all about.”

On a personal note, he added, “The company was founded on people looking for another chance in one degree or another. And I see so many people here that are pulling in the same direction, and they want this to be great.”

An emotional Matthew Rehwoldt was also excited about Slammiversary: “We’re showing you tonight why. Why we’ve been digging this up for the past couple of years, why we’ve been saying the things we’ve been saying, why we’ve been growing. We’re going to pay that all off, because you have to deliver. And if I know anything about any of these people, any of this team, we are going to deliver.”
