Tomohiro Ishii sustained an injury during last Thursday’s AEW Collision match with Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada but one that is not considered serious, according to Dave Meltzer.
In the match that aired Saturday, Ishii appeared to sustain either a left ankle or calf injury after taking an Okada flapjack early on which Meltzer said was not part of any storyline. However, Ishii is said to be “fine” with Meltzer noting, “Then again, he’s not going to act like any injury is serious.”
The Continental title match lasted just over eight minutes which came as a surprise to some as Ishii just went to a 30-minute draw with Gabe Kidd at last weekend’s NJPW Battle in the Valley.
Okada and Ishii have battled plenty throughout the years with last Thursday as their first singles meeting since 2020’s NJPW G1 tournament.
It was the 37-year-old’s Okada’s ninth successful title defense as he approaches the one-year mark as champion while the 49-year-old Ishii is still in search of his first AEW singles win (0-11).
