Ever since it came out that Chris Jericho has an expiry date to his AEW contract by the end of this year, he has been rumored for a move to WWE. Even though people within the Jacksonville-based company aren’t confident of Jericho coming back and even believe that he will start with WWE as a Royal Rumble surprise in 2026, AEW CEO Tony Khan was asked about his thoughts on the situation.
The head honcho of the promotion spoke about ‘Y2J’ at length during a pre-ROH Death Before Dishonor media call. Khan didn’t hold back at all while underscoring how pivotal the 54-year-old veteran wrestler has been to the growth of AEW. Khan also admitted that he wouldn’t have been in the position that he’s currently in as the AEW CEO without Jericho by his side.
The Jacksonville Jaguars co-owner added that he would love to have Y2J back with AEW. As ROH gears up for its 22nd edition of Death Before Dishonor at 2300 Arena on August 29, Khan shared one of his favorite wrestling memories from that iconic venue in Philadelphia. He revealed that his first wrestling event as a fan in that building happened to be Jericho’s farewell night in ECW.
I think the world of Chris, and I would love to have Chris back, and certainly he’s been a great, great star for us since the very beginning of AEW, and then here in ROH as well, as we talk about Death Before Dishonor and the great ROH events………

It meant so much for Khan, who’d been a massive Jericho fan since 12. Khan again put ‘Y2J’ over to close out his response. It does seem like the 42-year-old executive is more than willing to have Jericho continue in AEW, but apparently, the ball isn’t in his court this time. In fact, there’s already significant interest within WWE to welcome the ‘Lionheart’ back with open arms, and a deal is expected to be completed when it can happen legally.
The first thing that Chris Jericho did in AEW was form the Inner Circle with Jake Hager as one of its members. The latter worked with ‘Y2J’ for an extended period of time. There would be few better than Hager to describe how Jericho was treated by the management until the erstwhile Jack Swagger was with AEW.
The former World Heavyweight Champion recently told Chris Van Vliet that Tony Khan wouldn’t respond to Jericho’s messages for weeks. Hager claimed that it’s something Jericho had told him personally. Things within AEW started to fall apart after Cody Rhodes , one of their EVPs, left the company in early 2022.
Young Bucks and Kenny still had a big say in what they were doing. Chris (Jericho), obviously, has a big say in what he’s doing. Even Chris, he would tell me that Tony would not respond to his messages for two weeks.

Hager added that Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks retained their creative pull despite Rhodes’s exit, and Jericho also had it to a degree. However, as mentioned above, the 9-time Intercontinental Champion wouldn’t hear back from Khan for weeks. While the ‘Lionheart’ hasn’t publicly criticized his current boss over it, apparently, there was some communication gap between the two for a long time.
A few days ago, the pro wrestling world bore witness to some unfortunate turn of events during a Knokx Pro Wrestling show in California. Raja Jackson, the son of former MMA fighter Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, slid into the ring and unleashed a total of 18 shoot-style punches on wrestler Syko Stu‘s face.
The latter was getting battered while being unconscious, and he couldn’t respond to any of those until other members of the roster barged in to quell the onslaught. Stu was consequently injured, with some of his teeth missing and broken bones on his face. People from both the pro wrestling and combat sports fraternities have vehemently condemned Raja Jackson’s assault on a down-and-out Stu.
Stuart Smith's (aka Syko Stu's) GoFundMe has reached $67,458 with over 2100 donations.

Later on, a GoFundMe was also set up for his faster recovery. Chris Jericho donated $2500 to the cause in a great gesture. Speaking of his current whereabouts, Jericho posted a selfie on X yesterday with the caption “#Contemplation.” The 54-year-old is well aware of the ongoing rumblings around his future in wrestling, and he’s seemingly at peace with making everyone guess about what he’s up to.
