Tony Khan says AEW has talked about potentially adding more titles, including mixed tag team championships.

During the AEW Double or Nothing post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was asked about the possibility of a tag team or trios division to the women’s roster. He responded by noting that they have talked about potentially adding titles.

“Yeah, absolutely. We’ve talked about that, we’ve talked about a lot of potential additions in terms of championships,” Tony Khan said. “I think right now we have some really strong rivalries emerging amongst the World Championship, the TBS Championship, and also with ROH, you can’t deny that ROH has great champions now.

“We just crowned a new Ring of Honor Women’s World Television Champion in Billie Starkz, and her mentor, Athena, might be the best wrestler in the world and is the Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. She is a little beat up herself right now, but she is gonna be 100% very soon.”

Tony Khan On AEW’s Women’s Division

Tony Khan then described how the AEW women’s division has been impacted by injuries. He expressed his belief that they will keep adding depth, and the division would get stronger.

“There’s a lot of great things happening in AEW and ROH, in the men’s and the women’s divisions,” Tony Khan said. “I think it is definitely something that could be a very good possibility down the line. But we’re also still trying to build the depth back to I think the strongest it’s ever been. There was a point, All Out 2021, where I was coaching the Casino Battle Royale. We had 21 women in that battle royale, as well as a great Britt Baker versus Kris Statlander championship match.

“I think that was top to bottom, up til now, the deepest the division’s ever been. A lot of the great people from that match have been out or injured for various reasons and not with us. I think we’re gonna keep getting more and more depth back, and the division’s gonna keep getting stronger and stronger.”

Tony Khan On Mixed Tag Team Titles

Tony Khan went on to state that he had interest in potentially adding mixed tag team titles to AEW.

“I think those are very interesting championships,” he said. “I also think something different that we could do here that I’ve had interest in would be mixed tag team championships, and I think we have a lot of people that are aligned, and I think a lot of people would be interested in that too. That’s different than what other major promotions have, and I think that would set AEW apart. So I’m also interested in mixed tag team championships.”
