Tony Khan on Darby Allin's Extreme Spot: 'I Thought It Was Too Much'
AEW

AEW star Darby Allin is known for his extreme matches. He’s been thrown onto burning tables, dragged around in a body bag, and almost drowned in a fish tank by Moxley, etc. Outside the ring, he climbed Mount Everest. Anyway, Tony Khan recently spoke in an interview with Ariel Helwani about the one time that he thought Allin went a little too far.

The Darby Allin Spot That Tony Khan Thought Was Too Far

For the AEW President, the spot that had him thinking they went too far was when Allin dived from a ladder through glass. This was during Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution 2024. According to Khan, the spot was more brutal than what had been initially described to him. Though Khan said the spot “worked out.” He said:

“I think he's really a brilliant wrestler, and also he takes these chances. And I think normally they're very calculated chances. The one that I thought was too far — and I would say this to him, and I have said this to him 100 times — is in Sting's last match with the glass in Greensboro off the ladder. That was the one where I thought maybe it was too much, and it wasn't exactly the way it was described. It was pretty brutal. That was the one after where I said, ‘I think you're so brilliant about these chances, but this is the first time ever where I thought probably it was too much.’ But it was also the greatest night in the history of the promotion. He took a huge risk, and it worked out.” (h/t: WrestlePurists)

The infamous spot did have fans divided, especially because of how close the audience was to the carnage. Nobody wants to get glass shards on them unless their name is Darby Allin.

Darby Allin’s Next Pay-Per-View Match

AEW

AEW Full Gear is this Saturday, November 22. So what’s going to be his role in the upcoming PPV? Allin is going to face the Death Rider’s PAC. The match was added recently after PAC challenged Allin during last Saturday’s AEW Collision.

The 32-year-old’s last match was on November 12 on Dynamite, and it was a brutal Blood and Guts match. The match ended with Allin, Strong, and The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe, and Orange Cassidy) defeating the Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, and Wheeler Yuta. So the Death Riders aren’t finished with Allin just yet.
