WWE's next stop on the Road to WrestleMania 42 is the Elimination Chamber, and the winner of the chamber matches will be granted a world title match at the Show of Shows. Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble and last night on WWE RAW chose to face CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship.
It was on that show when it was announced that qualifying matches for the 2026 Elimination Chamber would take place starting on RAW next week (February 9th). There has been no word on who will be competing for a spot in the chamber, but one of WWE's top stars might not be able to compete.
Rey Mysterio's participation in both the Elimination Chamber and the qualifying match was called into question. Michael Cole revealed on RAW that the WWE Hall of Famer had sustained injuries in the Rumble match last Saturday.
There's no word yet on whether Mysterio's injury is legitimate, but he wasn't ringside for Penta's match against Bronson Reed on RAW last night. He competed in the Rumble but did so after an injury scare threatened to rule him out of the match.
Mysterio appeared to pick up a shoulder injury in a singles match against Austin Theory on RAW (January 26th). He wasn't involved in the Vision's post-match ambush and the referee threw up the 'X' sign.
The 51-year-old's injury wasn't considered serious, and that's why he was able to participate in the Rumble, although he only lasted two minutes and 43 seconds before he was eliminated by Oba Femi. He had returned from a spell out of action last year due to a seven-month absence with a torn groin.
While Rey's status for Elimination Chamber and the qualifying process is unclear, that might not be the case for Dominik Mysterio. The Intercontinental Champion returned to RAW last night and has seemingly recovered from a shoulder injury he sustained in December.
With Reigns already choosing to challenge Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, it makes the Chamber that much more interesting. The winner of the men's chamber will likely go on to face the Undisputed WWE Champion at the Show of Shows.
That is Drew McIntyre as things stand, although he could lose his title before Mania, given there are still two months until the biggest show of the year. But all signs point to McIntyre defending the gold at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
Reports suggest WWE are planning for McIntyre to once again face Cody Rhodes in a third entry in their rivalry. He cost Rhodes in the Rumble when he interfered and hit the American Nightmare with a Claymore from outside of the ring.
Rhodes would appear to be the favorite to win the Chamber to seal a rematch against McIntyre at Mania. But there have been clear signs of fans growing weary of SmackDown's top babyface.
Another idea WWE are thought to have in mind is adding Jacob Fatu to the WWE Championship match at Mania to make it a triple-threat. That would be a fresh take on the storyline, and Fatu has been feuding with Rhodes in recent weeks.
Fatu is ideal for winning the Chamber because it would further cement him as a major player and give him a big victory under his belt. Rhodes should go on a desperate mission to force his way into the match and lean into the recent discourse among fans about him getting too many opportunities.
