Triple H’s 5 Worst WrestleMania Matches
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Triple H is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the history of WWE. The Game is a former 14-time World Champion. He’s headlined countless WrestleMania main events. His current undertakings include overseeing the product as Chief Content Officer.

Triple H has competed at the highest level on the Biggest Show of the Year. He’s also had the unfortunate capacity of partaking in many worst outings at the big PLE. Let’s take a look at some of Triple H’s worst WrestleMania matches.

Vs. Booker T (WrestleMania XIX)

One of WWE’s greatest booking mistakes was not making Booker T the world champion when they had the opportunity. Booker was extremely over with the fans in 2003. He seemed destined to win the big gold belt.

Booker T won a star-studded battle royal that also featured The Rock to punch his ticket to WrestleMania XIX. Unfortunately, poor writing and some terrible angles resulted in an underwhelming build to Triple H versus Booker T. There were some racial undertones that also didn’t sit well with many fans, including when Triple H said to Booker T, “People like you don’t deserve to be World Champion.”

The match itself completely sucked the air out of the crowd. Hunter had been the world champion for months by this time, and fans wished nothing but to see him drop the title to Booker. A single pedigree, however, sealed the fate of the challenger. If this doesn’t scream the pinnacle of Triple H’s “reign of terror,” I don’t know what does.

Triple H Vs. Goldust (WrestleMania 13)

WrestleMania 13 featured an underwhelming card and bad to decent matches. Triple H versus Goldust followed the disappointing outing between Rocky Maivia and Sultan (aka Rikishi). Hemsley and Goldust didn’t add anything to the event either.

This was a standard wrestling match that went way too long. The highlight of the match came when Chyna absolutely destroyed Marlena, allowing Hemsley to win the contest with his patented Pedigree.

On the bright side, we got the five-star Bret Hart versus Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13.

Vs. Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 32)

WWE did everything back in 2015-16 to turn the crowd response in favor of Roman Reigns. Vince McMahon had the Big Dog endorsed by The Rock. The former boss even inserted himself as the Special Guest Referee in Reigns versus Sheamus on WWE RAW.

The live crowd, however, never bought into the hype. The last-ditch effort saw Reigns collide with Triple H over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Fans wanted Dean Ambrose to topple Hunter, but that was never going to happen.

Triple H and Roman Reigns went back and forth for over 25 minutes. The pair, however, failed to put on a decent match despite being the main event. The former Shield member picked up the win against the 14-time World Champion.

Vs. Randy Orton (WrestleMania XXV)

WrestleMania XXV featured some solid matches on the undercard as well as the all-time classic between Shaw Michaels and The Undertaker. The main event, however, prevented Mania 25 from becoming an all-around great show.

Triple H and Randy Orton underdelivered as the closing act. The in-ring work rate was sluggish and saw both superstars struggle to get the crowd behind them. The Viper’s loss at the hands of The Game, despite being a clear favorite, added to fan resentment.

Triple H vs. The Ultimate Warrior (WrestleMania XII)

Triple H jumped ship to WWE in 1995 following an underwhelming stint in WCW. The former Jean-Paul Levesque showed up as the repackaged Hunter Hurst Hemsley. Behind the scenes, Levesque formed a close bond with the notorious Kliq.

The following year saw Scott Hall and Kevin Nash leave WWE for WCW. Triple H and Shawn Michaels broke kayfabe by bidding farewell to their friends at a house show. Vince McMahon was livid and restarted Hemsley’s push all over.

As part of the punishment, Triple H lost to The Ultimate Warrior in a squash match at WrestleMania XII. Warrior would end up in WCW shortly afterward. The worst part: this was Triple H’s WrestleMania in-ring debut.
