Despite retirement, Trish Stratus always returns to WWE and now she vows to never leave the pro wrestling business.
It seems like nowadays, nobody retires for good. We have seen wrestlers return and overstay their welcome like with Ric Flair and Adam Copeland (Edge to hardcore WWE fans). As a result, we are getting wrestlers over 50 taking the spots of younger talent. Thinking about it, that seems to be a major issue with only the male wrestlers. As for the women, they do return after retirement but not in such large numbers. Perhaps, it has to do with there being more male wrestlers than female ones.
In 2007, Trish Stratus decided to retire and she did so at the top. She made Lita tap to the sharpshooter and won her, at the time, a record 7th Women’s Championship title reign. In the years that followed, she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and continued to work sporadic bouts. Typically, she competed the Royal Rumble or the first, and to date, only all-female WWE pay per view called Evolution.
While speaking to Going Ringside, Stratus hinted at another WWE run. “What is retirement,” questioned Stratus. “I’m not familiar with this word. I don’t know anything about this word. We just stay ready. That’s a general statement that we [Trish & Lita] like to live by, just in case.” Trish worked with WWE last year, bring back her heel persona after about 15 years. It was refreshing and she worked mostly against Becky Lynch. The feud ended with Lynch winning a steel cage match at Unforgiven and Zoey Stark getting the better of her former mentor.
If Trish does return, it needs to be with the right angle. I do not want to see her thrusted into a storyline with little direction. Maybe, she can work opposite Stark. The moment Trish finished her angle with Becky, she left. Several months wrestling Stark would prove there is value in her consistent returns. So, will Trish Stratus ever enjoy that retirement lifestyle from WWE?
