Mercedes Mone has a huge night ahead of her as she is setting her sights on beating Jamie Hayter and winning the 2025 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at AEW Double or Nothing, granting her an AEW Women's World Championship match against either "Timeless" Toni Storm or Mina Shirakawa.

Before the big night, however, Mercedes took some time to speak with Variety, highlighting things such as her match with Jamie Hayter, challenging for the AEW Women's World Championship, intergender matches within AEW, and reminiscing on the 10th anniversary of her NXT Women's Championship match from NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.

Goals In All Elite Wrestling

AEW Double or Nothing is going to give fans a first-time match between Mercedes and Jamie Hayter. Mercedes praised Hayter ahead of their match, saying, "She is really one of the best in the game". Mercedes also talked about winning the Owen Hart Cup and how she wants to share the ring with Toni Storm, but isn't against facing Mina Shirakawa as they do share some history.

Another match from Double or Nothing has piqued Mercedes' interest, that being the Anarchy in the Arena match, which will feature women for the first time with Willow Nightingale and Marina Shafir taking part. She claimed she wouldn't want to take part in a violent match like that but would be interested in having an intergender or mixed tag match, naming people like Mike Bailey, Ricochet, Swerve Strickland, Kazuchika Okada, and more as possible opponents/partners.

NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn

August 22nd, 2015 showcased what many wrestling fans consider one of NXT's best events ever, NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. The best match of the show saw Bayley capture the NXT Women's Championship from Sasha Banks in the penultimate match of the night and help usher in a new era for women's wrestling in the United States.

Mercedes said about that match and Bayley,

"We started working together with the same dream and the same goals. She was the first person that I really looked at and was like ‘Oh my god, she reminds me so much of myself.’ She loves wrestling just as much as me, and we have the same dreams and the same drive in what we want for women’s wrestling in professional wrestling."
