AEW star Will Ospreay continues to take shots at WWE. In the continuing back-and-forth that exists between some of the talent of the two companies, Ospreay might be among the most vocal. Using interviews to take public shots at the top competitor of AEW, Ospreay recently said, AEW smokes WWE in every field of wrestling.
Ospreay is widely known as one of the best wrestlers in the world. He's a gifted performer that WWE made a play to sign before he wound up in AEW. After WWE didn't sign him, it was believed that Triple H took a subtle shot at Ospreay in an interview on the Pat McAfee Show, where he said that anyone WWE doesn't sign because that star would rather the lighter schedule isn't someone WWE wants anyway. Ospreay seemed to take that personally and has since made several comments about WWE.
His latest comes during an interview with Josh Martinez of the Superstar Crossover Show. Ospreay said:
“We smoke ‘em in every field of wrestling, like we’re just better. I respect every single one of them there, they all know what they’re doing, they’re great at their job, they understand getting people on their feet. But we are so much more better of a wrestling company than them.”
He gave some props to certain WWE talents, but he stuck with his argument that it's not close. He added, "Our guys [AEW] smoke ‘em [WWE] every single day of the week. They’ve got good guys like GUNTHER, great guys like Randy Orton, good guys like Chad Gable. I respect all of them, but on our worst day, we smoke all of you guys.”
What some fans have pointed out on social media is that Ospreay is overlooking the actual roster of WWE in a major way. While he points out a few guys that WWE has who are well known for great wrestling, he conveniently forgets to mention a wealth of other Superstars that rank among the best in-ring performers in the business. There are far more than three names WWE has who can hang with someone like Ospreay.
So too, WWE isn't looking to be known as a "wrestling company". They are an entertainment company that happens to employ some of the best wrestlers in the world. Yes, they also have crossover stars on their roster that lack some in-ring experience. However, having performers who lack the experience isn't exclusive to WWE. For all the great wrestlers AEW has, they also have some of the worst in-ring technicians being paid quite well.
