Royce Keys, formerly known as Powerhouse Hobbs, made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble on January 31. We are now a week away from the Elimination Chamber, and Keys has yet to appear on television.
Keys’ most recent appearance came on Main Event, where he defeated Nathan Frazer in a singles match. Although Keys received his first action post-rumble, this was a non-televised match that happened before Smackdown.
Hours before the show went live, Keys posted on his Instagram account that he was at the FedEx Forum for Monday Night Raw.

When it was announced that El Grande Americano would face a mystery opponent, the question was raised whether this would be the time Keys would make an appearance. Instead, another show passed, and he was nowhere to be found. It has now reached a point to where this is a mysterious situation that needs to be addressed.
Usually, there would be video reels and a promo of a superstar who does not appear live on a show. A perfect example is Oba Femi, who was being promoted on Raw and Smackdown as he’s currently a free agent.
Yes, Femi and Keys are in two different situations. With that being said, how has there not been a single point where Keys is a talking point? Why has there not been a single promo cut by him introducing himself to the WWE universe? Slowly introducing him to the crowd can make his welcome feel warmer and people can get a feel for who he is and what to expect.
It appears that Creative wants to send Keys straight to the main roster, as he more than likely would’ve debuted on NXT if that’s where he was originally headed. The thing is, the road to WrestleMania is now picking up steam, and it’s very possible that Keys can be lost in the mix.
With reports that WWE is currently discussing multiple plans for WrestleMania, this has delayed Keys from making an impact on the roster. Nevertheless, the creative team has to find a way to get Keys involved in some type of story.
Smackdown is now a three-hour show; there’s plenty of time in that window to build up a story with Keys. One can be in a feud with United States Champion Carmelo Hayes. Instead of him continuing the open challenge that’s getting stale, have Hayes feud with Keys for a bit. Given that Hayes is a babyface now, this would be a perfect opportunity for Keys to put on a show with one of the best wrestlers on the roster.
There’s a good amount of talent that Keys can make a great match with, such as Jacob Fatu, Sami Zayn, and Ilja Dragunov. The most likely outcome is that he goes head-to-head with Damian Priest, as that’s who he eliminated at the rumble.
What WWE can’t do is have that drag on for too long, as the feud Priest had with Aleister Black seemed to drag on way longer than it needed to be. This potential feud can be a nice launching pad for Keys, but they need to have other ideas outside of this.
The way Keys was presented at the Rumble was very powerful. In that match, he eliminated Priest with ease, delivered a powerful spinebuster to Je’Von Evans, and had a great counter against Cody Rhodes.
It’s not as if Keyes immediately entered the ring and was eliminated in seconds. It was made clear that the WWE wanted to ensure that he would be a force to be reckoned with. Time is continuing to go by, however, and fans are now at a point where they want clarity with what’s going on with Keys.
Creative better ensure that when Keys finally debuts on either Raw or Smackdown, it better be in epic fashion. If not, it unfortunately might get to a point where no one will really care that Keys is on the roster, and that would be a shame.
