Why Booker T’s Comments on NXT Regarding Josh Briggs Shed Light on a Huge Mistake

He and Jensen haven’t done much on NXT lately. He had a tag team with Yoshiki Inamura, but that partnership ended in disaster last summer, with him barely on television since then. Jensen has been full-time on Evolve after getting unceremoniously dumped from the Culling. Booker T has accepted that Briggs will likely be in the next wave of cuts. If they stayed a tag team, perhaps they would’ve accomplished more since they went their separate ways. 

NXT Has Seemingly Left Him and Jensen Behind 

Whenever tag teams split up, the duo can either become singles stars or flounder and get released. For Briggs and Jensen, it’s been the latter. Since their split, we’ve seen Ethan Page, Oba Femi, Ricky Saints, and Trick Williams all become singles stars. In retrospect, that decision to split up is even more confusing. Bringing in a bunch of guys after splitting up a popular tag team had disadvantages from the start.

It also seems they are uninterested in a reunion. After the blowup with Inamura and the rejection from the Culling, the two should’ve reconciled. But they’ve been relegated to losing qualifying matches and wrestling on Tubi. Booker might get some heat for the comments he made. But NXT hasn’t given Briggs, and by extension Jensen, any favors. Their time in NXT is limited. 

Were Booker T’s Comments Too Harsh? 

Many people will view Booker’s commentary on Briggs as inappropriate and out of line. But since his split with Henley and Jensen, he hasn’t done that much. Outside of a half-year partnership with Inamura, he’s barely been an afterthought to fans. But to counter that statement, he and Jensen have been at a disadvantage since their breakup. When he beat Inamura, NXT should’ve put a rocket on him.

Instead, he’s been floundering, leading to Booker’s comments. Jensen joined the Culling, got dumped without warning, then showed up on Evolve.

NXT not pursuing a tag team reunion that could boost their stock is a horrible idea, as doing so would make for a great reunion. For some, Booker’s comments are what they’ve thought for months. But on the other hand, NXT’s handling of post-breakup Briggs and Jensen has been a great lesson in creative incompetence.
